Psychokitty started out its life as a home recorded project by guitarist/songwriter Dave Earnest, who had a vision of music with heavy, funky grooves, walls of chunky guitar sound, and literature-inspired lyrics.
Needing live experience, he and a friend formed another band and gigged around the San Francisco Bay Area for a few years. It was in that band that he met drummer Nick Minkler, who shared his passion for rock music that had both power and sensitivity. They left and formed what would become the live version of Psychokitty.
They took took the old home recordings and brought them to life with a new power and energy that the songs had not seen before, and then they forged ahead with brand new material. After a few months of practice, they picked up bass player Jim Kavanaugh, who created the kind of simple yet memorable bass lines that made the sound complete.
Today, Psychokitty has played around the Bay Area and has a steady gig at club El Rincon in San Francisco, where they play the Rock N Roll Tuesdays event once a month. The passion and energy of their live shows has been well received so far. Look for many more shows and songs to come in the future for this dynamic new band.
