Some nice, fuzzy things the press has said about Isul's solo work:
"...on her way to being a part of some of the music industry's finest..." - Women in Entertainment Magazine
"..natural born poet songwriter...Grade: A" - GuitarLab Magazine
"...the temperature is definitely rising...vocal chops to crack the big time..." - Buddyhollywood.com
"...Kim's smoky and bluesy vocals propel the...I-don't-give-a-damn-but-let-me-tell-you-what-I-think attitude in the face of male attitude. ...definitely the edgiest and she stomps jazzily on any waif-like posturing." - AsiaPacific Arts
FACTZ ABOUT ISUL KIM:
Isul is the frontwoman of the band Song of the Siren .
Isul loves her two kitties, Hefeweizen and Guinness, who are the first to hear her new tunes at home. They are hella tough critics.
Isul was born and bred in NYC. Her father was a yellow taxi driver and her mom still is a nurse. They disapprove of her hair but otherwise are loving and supportive. Their hard immigrant work ethic is the example that Isul follows and why she has met with many successes.
Isul loves cheesecake but can't eat too much of it in one sitting because she is somewhat lactose intolerant. She thinks that's just fucked up. Why the fuck can't she just have all the cheesecake she wants without getting sick? WHY??!!???
Isul began writing songs for her friends on a guitar she stole from her brother in high school. She recorded them on a cassette tape recorder, overdubbing vocals over guitar tracks and harmony vocals over the overdubbed vocals and so on, via a Radioshack mic.
Isul was once on the cell phone in the eastern Sierra Nevada mountains in California and was talking to her friend who was in a pub in England and she was blown away, like she always is, by mobile communication technology. She just can't get over it. That and how all those different kinds of cereal shapes are made. I mean, do they invent special machines JUST to make corn flakes or cheerios or alphabet cereal? If that's the case, then well, that's someone's job, people. Imagine that...
Isul moved to San Francisco in 2004 and met veteran rock musician, Garry Ventura. After that serendipitous meeting, Isul set out across the country, playing in cities including NYC, Chicago, Las Vegas and Los Angeles, with a vintage Gibson Everly Brothers acoustic.
Isul cannot see, hear or think about two pieces of metal scraping against each other without getting a nasty metallic sensation and taste in her mouth. Freak.
Isul is known for putting on intimate, captivating solo acoustic shows one night and then getting up on stage another night with her band boys from Song of the Siren and rocking your ballz OFF. It's exactly like when you meet this nice sweet girl all cut and innocent and introspective and then you take her home and to bed and it's wham bam thank you MAN. Yowza.
Isul can most likely out eat you in a "how spicy can you go" food contest.
