Meri grew up under a well known multi-talented father, whom himself was a musician and lead singer which topped the charts of the Pacific Islands for
10-15 years from the mid 1960's to the late 1970's with soulful music, reggae and remakes of the legendary Bob Marley. They then migrated to Melbourne Australia in 1983, where her father studied at the Melbourne University alongside Marina Prior to achieve a BA in Music Engineering. In 1996 Meri began her studies at Melbourne University for a BA in Theology/Psychology which was defered when she was spotted singing by talented entertainment agent Jackie Testro. Joining up with Colors/Danceworld under the guidance of Jackie Testro, she quickly started gathering experience when called to the final auditions for FAME at the Sydney Footbridge Theatre, NSW and then back to St.Kilda Victoria for the finals for RENT.Quickly catching the eye of David Jaanz she began as an Elite Vocal student which lasted 5 demanding years to mould and better facilitate the gift she possessed. Meri's first love is Gospel music and she has the voice to prove it! In 2000 she was asked to be the Vocal Representative to Fiji for the Reconciliation Conference, totally blowing them away with a song produced by Bryan Duncan, "United we Stand", ironically it was the perfect song for the event which was organised to bring the native Fijians and Fijian speaking Indians together in peace! As a result of her exposure in Australia and abroad Meri was called in 2001 to perform as a back-up vocalist for New Kids on the Block gone soloist Joey Mcintyre on "Hey Hey it's Saturday" which was then hosted by Darrel Somers where she was introduced to Marcia Hines. She has also appeared on Good Morning Australia with the added priveledge of singing with up and coming artists like CARMEN.Continuing to broaden her experience by also surprising herself in 2004, Meri was a part of 50,000 hopefuls who lined up for auditions for
AUSTRALIAN IDOL 2 and made it to the Final top 30. An experience that definetly opened many doors and extended her contacts even more. As a direct result of Australian Idol Meri was asked by the CEO of Collingwood Football Club to perform and record the tribute song to the then recently deceased, legendary Bob Rose.In early March this year Meri was contacted by the Directors of the Commonwealth games, for what became an honor and humbling duty.
She was given the opportunity to sing the national anthem for her birth country, Fiji. Which was performed for their first match for the Games, being a Netball match against Wales at the Sports Stadium in Benalla Victoria. Her vocal tones are thick and deep and every word is felt within. Having such influences like Luther Vandrose, Taylor Dayne, Ce Ce Winans, Peabo Bryson, Stevie Wonder, Helen Baylor, Quincy Jones and Patti LaBelle, you can see she's learnt from the best. At this moment in time Meri is working diligently on her debut single "I Am Here", co-produced by Ghettochild and vocally backing by BIG BRO JEKE. As a singer and a songwriter this collection of songs looks to focus on Gospel and Rhythm & Blues coming straight from the heart and being blessed from above.Header Banner Made with MyBannerMaker.com!
