About Me

Kulaia masterfully combines the spiritual with the soulful on her upcoming debut solo offering. Having already proved her hit-making prowess through her considerable contribution to the J Wess LP, Kulaia's latest effort promises to deliver the whole package; uptempo hits, downtempo ballads and heart-wrenching masterpieces with a gospel edge.As well as seamlessly melding R&B with Gospel, Kulaia has managed to retain the hint of hip hop flavour that was the hallmark of the fantastically successful 2004 release J Wess Presents Tha Lp. Kulaia's vocals and co-writing were one of the signature sounds of this ARIA Award nominated Top 20 release, which spawned the Gold-selling Watchu Want (which also went Top 10 on the singles chart), as well as the Top 20 singles, Bang This and Luv Ya. Further more, whilst touring with J Wess, Kulaia took to the stage along side the likes of Missy Elliott, Blue Cantrell and Sean Paul. After all this collaborative success and experience, Kulaia is surely poised to make an impressive impact with her solo career.
With influences ranging from Mary Mary and Ann Nesby right through to Mary J Blige and U2, Kulaia has been cultivating her distinct sound. As an integral part of the R&B girl group Bella, she recorded in LA and New York as well as back home in Melbourne and Sydney. In her years with Bella, Kulaia performed alongside such urban luminaries as Brian McKnight, Next and Nivea.
With spiritual matters being a central issue in Kulaia's lyrics and life, she is equally confident in applying her rich vocal ability to not only these themes, but also to the more widely defined urban tradition. Past commercial success, vast studio and stage experience and her undeniable ability to spiritually lift a track all converge to make Kulaia the complete artist.
