Broken September (PROMO ALBUM NOW AVAILABLE)

Web musical collaboration between US & Switzerland

About Me

Broken September is a one of a kind band for so many reasons. The most unique thing about this band is that its 2 members live on opposite sides of the planet and have never even met in person or spoken over the phone! It is the first female fronted metal band that is completely done by file-sharing and home recording. That's guitar, drums, bass, keys and synth all done by one person and 9 part harmony done by one person!

SEBASTIEN:
I come from Lausanne a small town of Switzerland not far from Geneva and the lake Leman. I had the chance to have a mother who pushed me to make music very early. Around nine years, I began classical guitar lessons. I m 38 now, so it is clear, I have had a little time to experiment! As soon as I had a guitar in my hands, I never ceased composing of the pieces. It is vital for me. I had the chance when I was small to make choruses for a group that did individual "Pop Music" in Montain Studio, the studio of Queen in Switzerland. It is what undoubtedly began my passion for the music. Until 14 years, I started to play of the guitar and to sing in groups of metal and Hard FM. Around 16 years, first concerts and recordings. I liked to record very much, it became my second passion. Then, in the Nineties, some CDs and mini-tours in Switzerland with several groups. After that, I decided to study again. I practiced two years of teaching guitar, and it was cool. During these studies I continuously played with other bands. I started to learn how to play of the drums, the bass, the piano and keyboards and even of the saxophone. I have always been a huge fan of Yngwie J. Malmsteen. I worked much in this style (neo-classical-shred) alone or with other impassioned musicians. I never ceased composing of the pieces. In all the styles: from classic to metal, even funk and jazz. I constantly followed the evolution of the material concerning the guitar and the home studio. Then, I impassioned myself for the home studio on computer. I started to build a small studio with Cubase. That was a revelation. Anymore would be impossible! At the same time, my private life was upset" by a marriage and the birth of two children. My work in teaching took up an enormous amount of time. All this slowed down my activities on the level of the music. For one year, I have started again to compose enormously of pieces and to place them on various sites on the Web. It was in this way that I had a revelation. By hearing the voice and the talent of Amber,I immediately proposed to her a collaboration. When I heard Ambers voice and understood with whom I had to make, I said myself that there was something very interesting to do. That did not miss: as of the first piece on which we collaborated, she showed an immense talent for writing and composition, a very good ear for the piano and a superb voice... Broken September was born! I'm endorsed by Hufschmid Guitars ! ;) Patrick Hufshmid finished my guitar: he called it: The "HufMaster" Featuring Solid Sapeli Mahogany Body and Neck from the same blank of the same tree! Unique! The mics are designed by Patrick Hufschmid and Kent Armstrong and handmade by Kent Armstrong! WARM, precision, sustain, attack! The sound is really perfect! you should really try it! It sounds better than my favorites guitars!!! I'm a huge fan of the handmade touch and the Kent Armstrong's mic are fabulous! The "HufMaster" KILLS! Patrick Hufschmid is the maker of the most fabulous guitars on the planet! The design of his guitars are fabulous. Patrick has made guitars for a few of my favorite musicians including After Forever's Sander Gommans and Bas Maas, Jeff Waters (Annihilator) and with plenty more to name! AMBER:
I was brought up moving from place to place, so I never really settled in anywhere. I was born in a small suburb in Georgia where I lived until I was nine. As a child I spent most of my time with my grandparents because my single mother was always working to try to get by with 2 kids on her hands. It was my grandfather who first introduced me to the keyboard. From my birth up until about the time I was 12, I was a very sick child, in and out of neumonia and having all sorts of allergy attacks and reactions and such. I was often having spells of serious illness and was constantly at home sick, it was one of these days when my grandfather went out and got me a keyboard to play on. I never took any lessons, just listened to the radio and picked the tunes out on the plastic keys of the little Yamaha. It didn't really become something serious until November of '97 when my grandfather passed away. It was the first truly painful thing ever to happen to me, and with my parents so emotionally closed off from me, I had nowhere to turn except to my music. So when I found out what had happened, I went upstairs, sat in front of my keyboard and composed my first song ever, "Portrait". From then on, music had become a very important part of my life. I saw it as my outlet for pain, anger and even happiness. When I hit high school, I was getting interested in the vocal half of the music scene and took every possible choir class I could get myself into. I spent almost all of my time rehearsing for plays and practicing privately with my choir teacher for competitions. I have my drama and choir teacher to thank for my confidence, for I had none until they stepped into my life. I did pretty well with the music competitions and even entered college on a musical theater scholarship. However, it was a dark time for me, my entire life was falling apart with my parents being unsupportive in every way possible and being surrounded by bad influences, I dropped out and spent almost an entire year secluded from making any kind of music. It wasn't until about 4 years ago that I was able to continue with my art when someone very dear to me, surprised me on Christmas morning with a brand new keyboard (for I had been without one for sometime due to a fire). Not even the tears of happiness I cried over that keyboard can thank him enough for getting it for me, it has meant more to me than he, or anyone else will ever know. I played on it as often as I had time and composed song after song recording them through the computer and placing them on sites like icompositions.com and macjams.com. It was in one these sites that Sebastien approached me with the idea of a collaboration. I was skeptical at first with the fear that he was way over my head (and I still think he is), but after finishing our first tune together, "Break my Heart" I knew we really had something! It was the beginning of Broken September.
