The Quest for the Voice Poets, an amazing group of multi-cultural writers and performers from urban Minnesota high schools, give voice to an art form that honors and brings forward stories, experiences, dreams, convictions and perspectives often silenced by the dominant culture.
A free-will offering to support the poets' trip is being accepted. On behalf of our Quest production team, we invite you to dig into your wallets, to help support the effort of Quest for the Voice group and encourage our Minnesota youth to build bridges with other youth nationally and even with some international groups. The investment will be well worth it! Consider this a life-changing opportunity for a group of aspiring poets, artists, politicians, leaders, entrepreneurs, preachers! This is a chance to show them you care. All donations are tax deductible.
Quest for the Voice-- is one of most incredibly successful and always anticipated Youth Slam Qualifying Series to determine the team that will represent Minnesota at the Youth Speaks-- Brave New Voices-- International Youth Poetry Slam Festival each year. But more than that it is a program that celebrates youth voice, leadership and empowerment! Tons of people from the community come together each year to make it possible from teachers, to community leaders to aritsts, to press, to youth and more. Each year competition rounds are held all across Minneapolis, St. Paul, the burbs and other areas with hundreds of youth competing at a chance to make the qualifying team of 6. This year's series, is produced by the MN Spoken Word Asssociation (MNSWA) along with youth and adult community producers.
In 2005, Juno Collective and MNSWA partnered to take the first Minnesota Youth Slam team to the Brave New Voices-- in San Francisco, which featured over 35 youth slam teams from all over the country, and as far as Leeds, England––and included over 500 youth poets, and audiences of over 3000. The Minnesota contingent made a splash at Brave New Voices, with their fiery poems and dynamic energy. The experience was profound and life-changing for both the youth and the adult mentors, and upon returning, they decided to continue their partnership to build the program, so that the youth of Minnesota would continue to share in this experience.
In 2006, the Quest for the Voice-- Youth Slam series reached over 200 youth in nearly a dozen Preliminary Slams, two Semi-Finals with 20 poets each and a standing room only Finals.
This year's Quest for the Voice-- team was decided in March '07.
If you would like to support the Quest for the Voice-- team's trip and remaining expenses from Brave New Voices-- or the TPT broadcast, for what is unarguably A LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE! you can send a tax-deductible donation to the address below or contact:
