In early 2005 Jack Talbot, Bill Guerin, Tom Snowdon, and Declan Furber Gillick formed TheMOXIE; a band that combines an original blend of garage, acoustic-folk, post-punk, and hard pop rock.
The band soon began gigging around their home town of Alice Springs, predominantly at local music and arts venue The Promised Land. The group also performed at the opening of the 2006 Alice Springs Beanie Festival, and the final concert of the Alice Springs Festival. TheMOXIE was included on the 2006 BASSINTHEDUST line-up alongside The Living End, Pete Murray, End of Fashion and DJs from around Australia. Hilltop Hoods performed a month later in Alice Springs and TheMOXIE were their support act at the concert.
2007 saw the group take its music beyond the local scene. Darwin’s BASSINTHEGRASS music festival included TheMOXIE alongside Eskimo Joe, JET, Behind Crimson Eyes, Hilltop Hoods, Little Birdy, TZU, Lowrider and Mammal. The group performed to 2000 people and received accolades from several of the national acts. TheMOXIE supported the John Butler Trio when they visited Alice Springs in August 2007. That December the band embarked on its first tour, heading north to Tennant Creek, Katherine and Darwin for several successful performances.
The band’s debut EP Behave Yourself was recorded at Huge Sounds Studios and released in May 2008. Behave Yourself is a 5 song original collaboration that marks the beginning of the band’s future endeavours. The EP covers a broad range of sounds, styles and genres yet successfully maintains TheMOXIE’s indie pop rock feel. In June of 2008 TheMOXIE ventured beyond the NT, travelling to Melbourne for several well received gigs.
Currently on the band’s ‘to do list’ is a trip to Brisbane and Sydney in October 2008 and to again tour Melbourne in December.
