About Me

The origins of Sweet Surrender go back to when Kaileb Rothwell (guitarist/ vocals) and David Drummond (bass) were thrown into a music class at the start of 2002 and decided to start a band with another drummer who was also in the class. At the start of 2005 we met an amazing drummer, Joey Klarenbeek, but it felt that we couldnt just ditch our original drummer. We struck it lucky in mid 2005 when our drummer packed up and moved to Melbourne, immediately opening the position for Joey which formed Second Impression. Over the next year or so we developed our skills as a band by exploring various styles, but we were still not fully satisfied with the sound we were producing. The resolution to this problem was found in a young, talented singer/ guitarist, Nathanael Rothwell (Kailebs younger brother). Sweet Surrender was officially formed on the 19th of June 2006. Our first jam together, with our new member, was a twenty minute slot in our school music room. Immediately we all realized that this is the sound we were always looking for. We were all so psyched after that first jam that all we did was write all new songs throughout the school holidays. We played a few random party gigs and gatherings that really went well and truly captured the audience we were playing to. With the audience wanting to hear more, we knew it was time to get some of these songs on CD. We met up with our old music teacher, Dom Le Souef, who really loved our material and agreed to let us use his equipment. Due to a small time frame we could only record four songs. We knew we had to try capture the heart and soul of what we do in our live performances so we decided to do live studio recordings.
