"The reason the mainstream is thought of as a stream is because of it's shallowness." ~ George Carlin
Is Vodka Tonic Media a record label?
An internet radio and podcasting network?
A management firm?
A concert promoter or booking agent?
A radio promoter?
The answer is yes, no, and some of the above.
Vodka Tonic Media dwells in two fields of business.
First, we are in the
business of ruffling feathers. Second, we are in the business of getting shit
done.
Vodka Tonic Media is not a record label in the traditional definition. We are a music based collective with a label back-end that offers promotional and project management services for unsigned bands interested in self-releasing their recordings.
We don’t sign bands, we partner with them.
We don't pretend to sell artist empowerment, we just help to facilitate it.
Our efforts resemble grassroots ethics that are both traditional and forward thinking.
Our inaugural slogan is “A Grassroots Heart, a 21st Century Mindâ€. We learned a great deal from our forefathers of the 80s grassroots indie/punk
label scene (Greg Ginn, Lisa Fancher, Miles Copeland, Greg Shaw, etc) and we
recognize the new innovators of today; people like the fine folks at Saddle Creek
and Terry McBride of The Nettwerk Group. Our services are not for everyone. We have no interest in hip-hop, R&B, or mainstream country. Vodka Tonic Media preys on rock n roll, especially if it’s free from the current corporate agenda of the RIAA and the major labels. We tag our preferred subgenres under one abstract umbrella: “INDIE RAWKâ€. The music we support is raw, timeless, and performed with balls as big as Pluto.
Vodka Tonic Media was established in November 2004 when founder Vil Vodka
re-formatted a 5 year old LIVE365 station, renamed it Vodka Tonic Radio, and
called the 24/7 stream the cornerstone of a new venture. Earlier that month Vil
had played his last show as rhythm guitarist for Phoenix’s glam-punk warriors
Blanche Davidian. Previously, he had performed with several local bands in Arizona, and released punk rock music under the label name Social Retardance.
Always known as being the pimp and promotional genius of any band he was involved with,
Vil decided to create a entity that can better serve the music and bands he loves.
