Christy Howard is a Blues vocalist and songwriter based in Detroit, MI. Her voice is sultry and smooth, unlike the typical growling or raspy Blues singer. Her music is Chicago Style-Blues and Blues-Rock, often with a distinct Country or Southern-Rock flavor. Her songs are usually co-written with husband-guitarist Jeff Howard, formerly lead guitarist for the legendary Butler Twins. Christy and Jeff often perform as an acoustic duo, and together won the 2006 Detroit Blues Challenge and competed in the 2007 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee. The Christy Howard Band discography includes BLUES FOR KATRINA (No Cover Records, 2005, Blues-Rock), PARTY GIRL (self-released, 2006, Southern-Rock and Country-Blues), and DEEP IN BLUES COUNTRY (No Cover Records, 2007, acoustic Chicago Style-Blues). Christy and Jeff draw on their long career in the seedy music business for their lyrics, which deal with cheating, mistreating, gambling, drinking and other debauchery familiar in the Blues. Onstage, Christy is Memphis Minnie meets Bonnie Raitt and Stevie Nicks, and Jeff is known for his fiery slide guitar work. They are backed by an all-star cast of characters including: Andy Szymanski, former keyboardist for the Butler Twins; phenomenal bassist John Foley, who once toured with Albert King and Bobby "Blue" Bland; and their curmudgeon drummer Jam Abrams, who adds some impeccably smooth lead vocals. Christy Howard's upcoming CD (I Crossed The Tracks) on the No Cover label will feature guest appearances by Chicago bluesmen Jim Kahr (Jimmy Rogers, John Lee Hooker, Charlie Musselwhite) and Steve Arvey; along with Detroit's own Bobby Murray (Etta James) and Harmonica Shaw.
