I make sad things funny

About Me

I'm the author of "Confessions of a Closet Catholic" (Dutton, 2005 - paperback May 2006) which won the 2006 Sydney Taylor Book Award for Older Readers. My second novel PURGE, a "poignant yet funny journey of a teenager winning her battle with bulimia," will be published by Scholastic in Spring 2009. As a recovered bulimic, who has suffered from poor body image most of her life, it's something I can write about from first hand experience and the subject of focusing on how women look rather than on developing who they really *are* is a topic to which I bring a great deal of passion. I'm busy working on various other writing project.I'm a firm believer that chocolate (especially dark chocolate) is the Elixir of Life, that life's too short to be miserable, and humor can be found in even the darkest moments if you look hard enough.I write fiction for tweens and teens and political columns for grown ups. As E.L. Doctorow said, "Writing is a socially acceptable form of schizophrenia".
I edited my profile with Thomas’ Myspace Editor V3.6 !
