"If we were to hand out some kind of 'blog reader of the month' award (perhaps "year" would be more apt), it would undoubtedly go to Super Amanda, a pneumatic (says here 40E) Tura Satana doppelganger and YouTube star based in San Francisco. "-Playboy.com
Super Amanda is a London based singer, actress, writer and internet personality originally from the San Francisco, Bay Area known for her skilled singing voice, vivacious personality and tall Amazonian hourglass figure. Her trained contralto voice boldly reinterprets the classic rock vocals of singers like Roger Daltrey, Freddie Mercury and Mick Jagger moving effortlessly from blues to metal to alternative.
Since Super Amanda's January 2007 debut on you Tube her combined online video hits for her first sixty video clips is over 13 million, all accomplished with no promotion apart from word of mouth. As of Summer 2008 her combined YouTube and Myspace video channels boast over 12,500 subscribers. Her most popular video "My Hourglass Figure Makes Me Smarter" has accrued over 3.7 million hits alone.
Currently Super Amanda has seen the release of her first two EPs on Itunes, Amazon and CD Baby for Seattle filmmaker and industrial rock founder D.A. Sebastian's Go-Kustom label for the single "Killing Machine" about Amazonian revenge; a potential perfect marriage of singer and song available in five mind boggling mixes including house techno and acoustic. He second EP, Hemi Charger, was released on Itunes in May 2008.
Amanda's stage acting credits are too numerous to note here but include Opera Non Troppo's "King Arthur" (2002) and "Dido and Aeneas" (2000) Super Amanda has also performed regularly at both The Starry Plough and LePena Cultural Center in Berkeley and at Columbia College Jazz Festival (1999).
In April 2006 Super Amanda made a very memorable guest appearance on British singer-songwriter Rachel Fuller's live webcast chat show "In The Attic" appearing alongside The Who's Pete Townshend and co-host singer-songwriter Mikey Cuthbert. Pete Townshend famously described Super Amanda to Rolling Stone magazine as being 'larger than life.'
Amanda also has a history of social activism and is a cofounder of the The Bay Area Paul Robeson Centennial Committee, a non-profit with 501(C) (3) status dedicated to restoring Paul Robeson's legacy in American schools. She has served as it's educational director and web developer since 1999. In Spring 2006 she met with renowned British politician and peace activist, The Right and Honourable Tony Benn, to discuss Paul Robeson's effect on post war England. She also was an adviser on the Carin T Ford book: " Paul Robeson: I Want to Make Freedom Ring" Enslow Publishers (2008), the first high school textbook specifically written about Paul Robeson for U.S. schools.
A visually exciting performer, her statuesque form and bombshell rocker ebullience offer a striking contrast to her down to earth intellectual side which is also a large part of her appeal as audiences know there will never be a dull moment when she takes the stage or sits down for a chat.
