The Professionals. The full story....1980 began with Steve & Paul spending time in Vancouver participating in the filming of the movie "Ladies & Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains". They played their customary roles of guitarist & drummer alongside Clash bassist Paul Simonon & "Scum" star Ray Winston as the lead singer. The pair also contributed 4 songs to the film, including "Professionals" (later to become better known as "Join The Professionals").Back in the UK, Steve lent his skills to recordings by Siouxsie and the Banshees & Gen X, while a single by The Physicals, produced by Paul, was released.More significantly, Steve & Paul provided the musical backbone on "Psychedelic Musik", a single by Andy Allen's own band, The Lightning Raiders. Then in July came the announcement that would make Andy Allen a fully fledged accomplice.THE PROFESSIONALS HAD ARRIVEDThe announcement of Steve Jones & Paul Cook's new group, The Professionals, was coupled with news of the debut single in July, "Just Another Dream" (b/w “Action Man†Virgin VS 353). It was to be followed by a 10 track album "Join The Professionals" in August. The single failed to chart despite healthy sales. ITV's Saturday morning teenage magazine programme, "Fun Factory", aired the promotional video. Filmed by Julien Temple, the video depicted the trio superimposed as giants around famous London landmarks, (Paul drumming on the dome of St. Paul's Cathedral, a giant Steve standing on Nelson's Column). A record retailer confirmed on the show that "Just Another Dream" had been a top seller the previous week.VIEW VIDEOSContinued on www.cookandjones.co.uk
