NOTE: Check here often to see which songs are available for listening. I change them out often.
The basic, overall style or 'sound' of The Shaggers is a combination of freak (post-hippie/late babyboomer) and punk. I coined the term 'Frunk' to put a label on this Detroit garage band sound I play.
FYI....I rarely use effects on my recordings. Usually only a slight bit of reverb. Much of the reverb, echo, doubling and chorusing is performed live, with microphones...not digital or analog effects boxes of any sort...most of the time. I like it better that way because it's harder to do and makes effects boxes more noticable when I do use them.
Bass on all recordings is the Rickenbacker 4005 unless otherwise stated. I love this bass!
Drums on all recordings are 1958 Slingerlands with the A. Zildjian cymbals that came with the drums. Sometimes I add other cymbals such as China crashes, splashes, and other effect cymbals. Sometimes I use my son's 1948 Ludwigs, but that will be stated in the song description. So assume you are hearing the Slingerlands unless I mention it's the Ludwigs.
Our name comes from the auto industry in Detroit. A "shagger" is a person who moves cars from one place to another. Shaggers are basically slobs and transient ne'er-do-wells, who drink and party too much and generally don't smell too good. Of course, you also have the other meaning of "shagging" which isn't much different than our chosen usage of the word.
'The Shaggers' is basically made up of 4 individual personalities who don't smell too bad, joined by transient guests who may or may not smell bad. We choose to make music that sounds like many disparate styles all mixed up and blended together, like a shagger van full of smelly people.
We don't care who wrote the songs we play. A great song is a great song. So that frees us up to do original material or stuff we like by other artists. Thanks to all our friends and mentors for being so inspiring! Now we just gotta get people to send me bags and bags of money.
PEACE
