We are all searching for something.
For Matt Shwachman, it is a search for melody, for motion, and for fulfillment of the mind. This search has forged an acoustic guitar driven-blend of pop/rock with lyrics that often tackle difficult philosophical questions.
Matt’s music style could be compared to a blend of Dave Matthews, John Mayer, U2, Coldplay and Tom Petty. Skope Magazine states that Matt’s music, “would impress fans of artists such as John Mayer, Tom Petty and Jason Mraz.â€
Although his artistic vision and style took years to take shape, Matt would taste success with his very first finished song. Although written years earlier, “Side of the Road†recently touched listeners across the country when it earned a spot on the hit TV series, One Tree Hill.
Matt’s new album, entitled Uncharted Territory, “is a journey about the process, not the end result,†Matt says. “We are all ever-evolving, changing and growing people. It is this growth process that brings fulfillment, and in order to attain any sense of it, it must be earned.â€
Indeed, Matt’s efforts have been earning him some attention as of late. College Radio and several TV appearances seem to have industry people taking notice, as Matt has had his music played on over 125 college radio stations. CMJ recently stated, “Acoustic-wielding, Boston-Based singer songwriter Matt Shwachman will be giving established heart-melters like One Republic and Five For Fighting a run for their money when he performs a brief handful of East Coast dates this month and makes an appearance on the tri-state area’s The Tim Qualls Show.â€
Radio is not the only place Matt has been earning his keep. Matt recently recruited guitarist Mike Fiore, bassist Hugh Allen, and drummer Dana Bonardi to form the Matt Shwachman Band (MSB). Matt and company have played many of New England’s top club venues including The Hard Rock Café Boston, which recent show drew over 300 fans. Other notable venues include, T.T. the Bear’s Place (MA), Harpers Ferry (MA), Sullivan Hall (NYC), Arlene’s Grocery (NYC), Doc Watson’s (PA), and the Grog & Tankard (D.C.) to name a few. Next up, in addition to the normal club calendar, MSB will be doing a residency gig this fall, playing every Friday night at Worcester, MA hot spot Club Fusion.

"Acoustic-wielding, Boston-Based singer songwriter Matt Shwachman will be giving established heart-melters like One Republic and Five For Fighting a run for their money when he performs a brief handful of East Coast dates this month and makes an appearance on the tri-state area's (Deleware, New Jersey, and Philly) The Tim Qualls Show." — CMJ
“On his new disc Uncharted Territory, Boston-based Matt Shwachman blends intelligent lyrics that really have something to say, with strong melodies and outstanding musicianship. Track 3, “Rise Above†is a memorable, radio-friendly gem that would impress fans of artists such as John Mayer, Tom Petty and Jason Mraz.†— Skope Magazine
"Matt’s voice is pure and his lyrics even more so. Uncharted Territory covers just that…the inner landscape and the journey through is done in a feel good popish manner that doesn’t bore. As a matter of fact it soars and swells with words and chords that should be bottled up and sold to the disenchanted as an effective pick-me-up." — Unsigned The Magazine
“Shwachman plays uplifting and occasionally angsty music that has earned him some television airplay on ‘One Tree Hill’â€. — The Boston Globe
"Sometimes beautiful, transcending songs are as simple as a man, a guitar, and a positive vision. Such is the case for Worcester-based Matt Shwachman, singer, songwriter and storyteller. On his latest release, “Unchartered Territory,†the songs glide effortlessly from track to track with tales of inspiration, love, and spirituality ~ all guided by Shwachman’s acoustic guitar, melodic flair, and lyrics that resonate straight through to the soul. The one element that really stands out on Shwachman’s CD is the ever-present positive energy and spirit intertwined with every song, inspiring the listener to make the most of all that life offers up." — Pulse Magazine
"… Sounds like Train and Five For Fighting meeting, while waving across the street to Jason Mraz… Shwachman has a journalistic trait to his writing that makes it an intimate space in which to breath. The lyrics are articulate and clear, and there’s no room for confusion.†—Northeast Performer Magazine
“Great passionate rock that definately comes from the heart!" — Derek Sivers, President, CD Baby
