'A disarming songstress...'
- fasterlouder.com.au
'Earthy, grounded and honest...Humphreys holds similar visual qualities to an old antique book on the shelf of a second hand book store: she doesn't do much but her stillness encourages the watcher to pay attention to the words within. Luckily they're worth paying attention to.'
- Drum Media
'Humphreys plays it open and intimate.'
- Bernard Zuel, Sydney Morning Herald
'On her 2008 release 'Teapot Trees and Love Birds', Humphreys sounds like a beautiful concoction of Missy Higgins and Clare Bowditch tinged with soul, sensuous pop and folk.... Tonight, however, as the very engaged audience heard, Humphreys blew the comparisons out of the water, proving she is her own artist.
Her seamless performance included April, the poignant Just The Way We Were and the gorgeous saunter of Things That You Don't Say, all sung in fine form, her vocals executed to perfection.
Occasionally peering out from beneath her thick fringe, Humphreys delivered with confidence and passion....her songs bursting with originality, beauty, flair and intrigue through her wise words... She is being touted as the singer to watch in 2008 and I wouldn't disagree for a moment.'
- Monika Laskowski, dB magazine, Adelaide
'A down to earth, barefoot Sarah Humphreys played the same stage and has equal response from the crowd, humbly showing off an amazing vocal talent that guaranteed no vacant chairs. The thing that impressed me most about Sarah apart from her clear ability to write and sing a great tune, was that her Australian accent stood out.'
-Trad & Now magazine
SARAH HUMPHREYS
With the January release of her new record Teapot Trees and Lovebirds Sarah Humphreys is quickly becoming the songwriter to watch in ’08. Produced by Michael Carpenter at Love Hz Studios in Sydney, this is an album of 60’s inspired folk/pop songs that will make you cry and smile at exactly the same time. Earthy grounded and honest.
The last few years has seen Sarah touring the country with the likes of Kasey Chambers, Sara Storer, Mick Hart and Diesel, and also on her own with independently funded tours. This, combined with Triple j, Fbi (Sydney), RRR (Melbourne) and community radio support, her independent records are enjoying success around Australia.
'When i came back to music from a year long break and launched my EP in 2006, i came back for the right reasons, without grand expectations or the need for specific results. I have a deep love for songwriting, singing and playing that runs through my blood. Music is my closest and most treasured friend. I enjoy what i do whether i'm playing big shows or little shows. I try not to plan too much and live a happy and simple life, playing music and spending time with the people i love. This kind of attitude towards life and music has been my saviour and i have received an unbelievable amount of support and recognition all of which surprises me and warms my heart. Life and experience has made me bolder and stronger and i'm looking forward to the journey this album takes me on.'
