Don't You Think It's Time:
Quietly exploring the depths of suburban charm across two albums, Bob Evans is heading back to the studio with a swag of new songs for album number 3.
The romantic, open-hearted homespun alter-ego of Kevin Mitchell, from Australia’s well-loved indie pop/rock band, Jebediah, Bob Evans calmly slipped into the public scene as an opportunity for Mitchell to express the intimate side to his songwriting.
Bob Evans truly captivated Australia with his second album, 2006’s ARIA Award winning “Suburban Songbook.†The charismatic album further proved Mitchell’s natural gift for creative songwriting. Borne out of writer’s block, the quirky album is one Mitchell regards as a ‘personal triumph.’
Nashville-based producer Brad Jones joined Mitchell in the studio to help refine the vision for the “Suburban Songbook.†The result is an album “heavy on varied instrumentation without being some kind of overproduced monolith.â€
“I wanted to really push the idea and feeling of turning the ..Suburban Everyday’ into something of almost fairytale quality,†Mitchell explains. “Of romanticism. That magic can happen in the suburbs every single day. Almost like making a record where within the stories it’s like everything’s happening on Christmas morning. There’s that little hint of magic in the air.â€
Now reuniting with Brad Jones for album number 3, the demos for the yet untitled project reveal even more of the gentle magnetic personality of Bob Evans. Expect to see some early highlights in the studio diary on www.bobevans.com.au .
