My Interests

Music, whether that's production, DJing (Can't be bothered to practise my mixes unless I got a gig coming up, but I can happily spend a few hours fine-tuning my flares or beat juggling), or just chilling out and listening. Skateboarding, and B-Boying, although as Danny Glover once (or four times) said: "I'm getting too old for this shit" but I try to keep my skills up...Watching films, comedy shows and funny cat compilation tapes...Quite into my old cars, especially aircooled VWs and Porsches: I've got a '67 VW splitscreen pickup, a '67 Porsche 912, and a '72 VW Beetle. There's no better way of spending a Sunday afternoon than lying on your back with a greasy tool in your hand.....Recently I've been getting into 3D rendering, not done too much so far but enjoying learning about it, and hope to get some freelance work every now and again.

I'd like to meet:

Cool people who are into cool music, cool films and generally enjoying a full time role as cool person.

Music:

Hiphop ( so long as it doesn't involve going on for 5 minutes telling me about how you drink champagne..Yeah, so do I, however I don't feel the need to *literally* make a song and dance about it....) mostly the older stuff, and stuff from the UK.Lots of funk and soul, some disco, so long as it's got those fatty breaks. Chilled out stuff from Boards of Canada, DJ Shadow, RJD2 etc.If I'm out on a party times flex I may be caught getting down to some Drum n Bass, but I'm a chiller than a pill'er....I'm also into lots of random stuff from buying records from charity shops: Who knew I'd end up loving that 'Strictly Oompah' Record?I DJ as Mr. Margaret Scratcher, a silly name drunkenly thought up just before a battle. I would change it but the reaction of people has convinced me otherwise, so it stays, with the addition of the 'Mr' at the start, to avoid gender confusion....I play Hiphop, mostly in the form of dropping fat breaks from lots of different types of music, from funk to 80s pop, a few TV themes thrown in, and plenty of scratching. I try to educate, so that means showing people where all those tunes they love get those breaks and samples from...

Movies:

Working at the Video Emporium, I'd love to say I only watch films whose production and acting levels meet my high expectations, but in reality I watch all kind of films, from high brow chin-scratchers to low brow toilet humour. Basically although I do appreciate cinematography, and really enjoy watching a well made film with an engaging storyline, I love crap films just as much as the next person. Which I guess explains why I'm the only person to have rented U.H.F......I enjoy lots of asian cinema, in particular Takashi Miike, whose weird mix of terror, horror and omedy seems appropriate at any time or whatever mood I'm in. I love comedies, Will Ferrel seems to be good in everything he's in (although I've not seen 'Kickin and Screaming'...) and his sketches on Saturday Night Live are well funny, although they could maybe do with a little more cowbell...I'm pretty open minded, although I'll admit I'm put off by films with a romantic theme (although 'Grosse Point Blank' was pretty good, I maintain that the romance part was a subplot....)

Television:

Don't really watch the television, although thanks to the marvels of the Video Emporium, and the internet for unreleased series, I do watch quite a few TV programmes. Loving the 'Mighty Boosh', 'Look around You', and 'Nathan Barley' and I recently re-watched 'Brass Eye' which means a re-visit to 'The Day Today' is in order...I've been investigating all the 'Adult Swim' cartoons on Cartoon network (shown in US but not over here for some odd reason...) such as 'Aqua Teen Hunger Force', 'Sealab 2021' 'Harvey Birdman' 'Robot Chicken' and last night I decided to have a proper look at 'The Boondocks' which I wasn't really feeling on the first watch, and it is actually really funny. I like the Simpsons and South Park, but then again, who doesn't?Not watching real TV means I get to avoid all the shitty 'reality' shows such as 'I used to be a Celebrity get me some publicity' and 'Group of fucking idiots in a house acting like knobs' If I want to see how a group of people act when they live together I'll switch off my TV and turn my chair around....

Books:

Read a few Elmore Leonard books, but generally haven't made much time for chilling with a book recently. Put off reading for along time after finishing 'Papillon', not because I didn't like it, quite the opposite: It was so good I really couldn't see any point reading anything else. Sounds silly, but there you go.

Heroes:

The Comedy Greats: Whiteley, Hill, and of course the Chuckles, both Barry and Paul.I feel guilty but I know my Powers of Pun have increased with the passing of the first two, like Jet Li in 'The One', I dread to think of the stinkers I'm gonna drop if, god forbid, the brothers Chuckle are prematurely taken from us....

So as many of you know I play at a night called 'PingPong' at the Junction in Cambridge. A fucking wicked night. For the opening, the promoter booked Pendulum, and everyone was really hyped about it. ...
