I am here for Friends

About Me

12/07 I had a Wonderful Christmas, spent with my husband, parents, sisters, brothers, nieces & nehews @ my parents home. Great Food - Great Company!! .......................................... ..........................................Hurricane Katrina destroyed my home, my neighborhood, my community, my City, my Parish, my Plans for the future and my way of life. Everything, every aspect of what I considered my normal life is gone. My home was completely submerged in the Flood Waters of Katrina. The radio said "Jean Lafitte & Judge Perez has 20' of water! That's the entry to my subdivision. Then I had an estimate of 4' of water sitting for a while in the waters from Hurricane Rita.I lived in Chalmette, La. -- St. Bernard Parish. When the waters from Hurricane Katrina receded the Parish was DEEMED 100% AFFECTED! There were 3 HOMES that were considered inhabitable after the storm. St. Bernard Parish was the ONLY PARISH (what other states call counties) which was 100% AFFECTED.My Parents, siblings and my niece went from homeowners to homeless on August 29, 2005. Therefore, my immediate family lost 9 homes! Many of my extended family members, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, etc., also lived in St. Bernard Parish and lost their homes as well.Yes, we're "refugee's." I am still displaced, my home is uninhabitable therefore, I am a refugee. "In the beginning" of this catastrophe, after the waters receded from Hurricane Rita -- I truly intended on returning to my home. My husband and I believed we would rebuild my home and be a part of the rebuilding of my parish of St. Bernard. I was very optimistic, although our lives were no longer anything like they were on August 28, 2005, I truly felt like "Okay, we have all went through this terrible ordeal and the people of SE, La. will work together. We will rebuild our homes, neighborhoods, communities, Parishes and the entire region of SE, La. better than it was prior to Hurricane Katrina."But things didn't and aren't turning out so rosy. My husband, me and our two dogs now live in Carriere, MS -- just outside of Picayune. My Parents purchased a home in Picayune and most of my siblings are "in the area." Some are living together "waiting to see" what is going to happen while also keeping an eye out for affordable housing. TFFOn August 1, 2007 my husband and I purchased a home in Picayune, MS. We came to the realization that "Home is GONE." We had to purchase another home because the "secondary residence" that I have in Carriere, MS is considered a 1 and 1/2 story home -- 2 BD rooms & 1 bath is upstairs. I have several health issues, I became disabled in 1996. I was in the Mortgage Industry for 20 years, I worked in many positions and truly enjoyed my career. I had a hard time dealing with the loss of my career, my job, my health and the realization that would not be able to have children -- all happed in 1 day when I had surgery. Anyway, I had to purchase a home with everything on 1 level -- so I could use the entire home. I looked at many homes, many beautiful homes but "none felt it could be my home." Eventually, I found one -- the layout & style reminded me somewhat of my old home. Of course there were problems when it came time to purchase the home and we needed to get an extension. Then when it got closer it turned out that the sellers couldn't move and had to rent the property from me -- I believe it was a little over a week. The problem was, I couldn't really inspect the home empty until I had already purchased the home. ............................................................ ....................................................
