About Me

Well, it was time for a little update to the old music page. Reason being, there's actually something musical to discuss. I've been given the green light and acquired the financing to finally go ahead and make the album I've been wanting to do for the last couple of years. I strongly believe in the material and the vision for the overall feel of the project. I guess we all believe in our stuff, but this is, in my honest opinion, the best stuff I've ever written and the most excited I've ever been about a musical project. We're still in the preliminary stages. I'm trying to line up all the right personnel including producer, musicians, studios/engineers and so forth. I've got some good ideas and good candidates, but nothings been nailed down just yet. There will be more in the next few weeks to report on all the above, I'm certain. Meanwhile, I go about the task of trying to decide which of my little creations (songwriters have a special place in their hearts for all their songs - even the weak ones), gets set aside. I have enough tunes right now to almost do two albums, so deciding on the best 10 or 11 is kind of difficult. I'll have very creative people around me to help though, so I may just shut my eyes and let them do it. LOL I'll update the page as needed and I hope you folks are all as happy with the final product when it's done as I am to be doing it.Also, don't forget to please go check out my personal profile at www.myspace.com/therealmarkatwood and stay in touch with me. That's the one that I'm most active on, although my occasional acoustic gigs and other music related things will be posted here as well as a bulletin now and then if I'm playing somewhere.Peace Y'all - MAA

What's on the player?

How Country, Oakalla Road and Liar: From the Mark Allan Atwood Band's final demo and three of the dozen tunes that were written for the album. I just added Liar back to the page. It features yours truly with my only recorded guitar solo ever (the intro solo). The other musicians include Keith Scroggins of the Kyle Wayne Kutcher Band on bass, and Bill Cagle and Dizzy Gillespie of Dizzy Gillespie and Broken Souls playing piano/organ and lead guitar respectively. Screaming In The Night: Recorded with Wasteland, with whom I spent five of the best years of my life. From the 1997 Steve Records release "Come On Feel The Metal. It was a concept album (double CD) where all these awesome Texas artists, some signed, some not, got together and covered some of their favorite classic 70's and 80's guitar rock songs. The album was sold as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and sold fairly well. You can still find it out there in the wide weird world of the internet, and the Toadies cover of Thin Lizzy's Cowboy Song make the whole damn thing worth buying, in my opinion. The Good Life Fades Away: This is a pretty good example of the kind of things I'm writing these days. This was also written for the MAAB and is one of my favorite things I've written in years. This is a pretty raw recording of just me and the acoustic in the bedroom. I'll put up a better recording of it sometime soon, I hope. Fool For Your Stockings: I had the good fortune of getting to play with a couple of my oldest friends Johnny Kelsey and Robert Johnson in Vagabond, which was a kickass Southern Rock tribute band. We played nothing but Allman's, Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Molly Hatchet, Outlaws, Marshall Tucker, and all that sort of good shit. It was a very talented lineup although it was short lived. Johnny is one of my best friends in the world, a real brother to me, and I'm sure we'll play together again, as we have millions of time since we were kids. This is a cover of one of my favorite ZZ Top songs ever."There are only two kinds of songs; there's the blues, and there's zip-a-dee-doo-dah." - Townes Van Zandt
