About Me

So, what do you want to know? I'm rather cynical but have a sense of humor. Music has been a part of my life from before I started school in 1953 in Fort Worth, Texas. I graduated from Eastern Hills High School in 1965 and went to work in the early fall in a notorious Ft. Worth club called The Cellar. I met some fabulous musicians there but didn't last long as a drummer because I tried to play drums and sing at the same time. Never did that before and never did it again. I did discover that singing was easier and more fun than playing the drums so I gave up drumming. I joined the Navy in November of that year. We were in the midst of Vietnam at the time and although I was in a unit that was considered amphib,I never had to go. I got out after 4 years, at least 2 of which was spent in various specialty schools. I went to work for Southwestern Bell but found the work very boring and left after 2 years. Helped form a band called Savvy and got fired after 10 months. Continued my music career through the mid 70's with a 5 piece rock band called "Beltline" while pursuing a degree in Radio/TV/Film. Left college and the band after 1977 and started work at Motorola in March of 1978. Met my wife at Motorola, had a son,Ian,a year later, worked at various electronic service jobs including Abbott Labs, Mostek, Airtrans at DFW Airport, and Clinitherm, until 1988 when I returned to UNT to finish my Degree. While still in school my wife and I formed and incorporated our company, First Take Productions. Our original business was Corporate video. For the next 5 years we produced a number of marketing and training videos for a small company in Gainesville that became a medium sized company within a span of those 5 years. We also produced, shot and edited a how to video with a fisheries Biologist named Bob Lusk. The Video, Basic Pond Management is still selling today and I had the forethought to do it for costs and a percentage. Tx. A&M has been using it in their curriculum for the past 6 or 7 years and it's still bringing us income 13 years later. Did a DBA as Media Works in 1995 when our business direction changed more toward computer service as a result of existing customers knowing that we "did that kind of stuff". Nowadays we spend most of our days solving other people's problems. In the mid 90's I was involved in a band called the "Fiends" with my son and later a band known as "Simonguitarfunkle" with my son on Drums and Joseph McCoy on Bass, they are now the rhythm section of The Bois d'Arcs. They were both still in High school at the time. Love to sing and play guitar although my business doesn't always allow me the time to do it regularly. I have recently re-united with an old Bass Playing friend of mine from east Ft. Worth and we are doing some limited local gigs and hope to record something soon. I have put up a music site, Simonguitarfunkle and we will get some tunes up soon. Until that happens, I will always have some Bois d'Arcs on my player for your listening enjoyment. Thanks for visiting and come back real often now, you hear.
