"Hearts are not had as a gift
but hearts are earned
By those who are not entirely beautiful."
~ William Butler Yeats
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Student at West Valley College, transferring to San Jose State in the fall.Have very eclectic taste in lots of things: music, books (I really do need to read more...), food, taste in men, etc.
Very much a liberal, can be conservative on some issues: Prefer NOT to be labeled! Can be a walking contradiction: Feminist, with a Terrible/Vicious, Romantic, Lovy-Dovy streak - go figure. Prefer the term, FEMININE-IST! (For the narrow-minded, dumbasses that have a negative/misinformed idea of what feminism is) - for example. The incurable romantic side I blame on being a Taurus - very affectionate, sensual, sensitive (especially to touch!).
YET, I have ended up as the Goddess of the Friends Zone! Fortunate enough to have some really great, sensitive, intelligent, and attractive male friends, but with the few I really like - I get an automatic pass to the Friends Zone. *Sigh*...
I'm also very interested in American Indian/Indigenous peoples, history and culture. I am involved with the Native American community where I live. Help out on my college's Annual POWWOW Committee. (@ West Valley College, in Saratoga CA - This year will be on Saturday, Sept. 30-EVERYONE INVITED!)
I'm Mexican-American (Mexica/Aztec, and Spanish, on my mom's side). Don't know the indigenous ancestry on my dad's side. Don't know if I'll ever be able to find out. But definitely identify more with indigenous/native american spirituality/mindset.
Journalism major - Want to draw more attention to American Indian issues in this country!!!! And more ethnically diverse new reporting, and some REAL OBJECTIVITY within the media would be great, for starters!!
Want to live/work/sleep/eat/breathe journalism, and travel the world. Write a few books and live off the royalties. Freelance for any magazines I like/choose. I am always drawn to indigenous/pagan cultures throughout the world. Did I say travel the world as much as possible?
Have an Insatiable Curiosity for all of the above, and much more. Just ask!
Always open-minded, open to discussion/debate with equally open-minded individuals. Can't stand arrogant, "I'm right, everyone else is wrong"-types, (especially self-righteous so-called Christian ones). Can't stand arrogant men that act like they're "god's gift to women," too. If YOU are ANY of these - LEAVE ME ALONE, You Don't Play NICE, Take Your Bad Mojo Somewhere Else!
Oh yeah, and I have a pretty damn good sense of humor too. And a delightfully naughty sense of humor, at that, for those who appreciate that sort of thing. (Again, that's the Taurus thing.)
~ Smooches, daaahhhhlings!
You are Bettie Page
Girl next door with a wild streak
You're a famous beauty - with unique look
And the people like you are cultish about it What Famous Pinup Are You?
You are Brigitte Bardot
Naurally sensual and beautiful
You're an exotic beauty who turns heads everywhere
You've got a look that's one of a kind What Famous Pinup Are You?
Photo from the film "Let's Get Lost."
Photo from soundtrack cover for "Let's Get Lost."
My Little CALVIN is Dancin'!
Movies:
THE USUAL SUSPECTS!! I love the suspense/mystery plot, and it's a "4-BABE MOVIE" rating: (Kevin Spacey, Gabriel Byrne, and Chaz Palminteri, and a Baldwin [Steven] as the icing on the cake!)
PREDATOR (don't like Arnold, but can watch this over and over again! OK, the beefcake guys helps too!)
THE UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF BEING (of course, not as good as the book though)
DIABOLIQUE (the original French version is AWESOME!, not the stupid Hollywood remake with Sharon Stone)
SIN CITY - one of the Best Movies I've seen in a long time. It rocks!
CLERKS, WHALE RIDER, THE FAST RUNNER - totally produced by an Inuit cast in Canada. Tells one of their traditional stories, amazing production, check out the web site. Won Cannes Film Festival award too.
WING COMMANDER (I love Tcheky Karyo!). Anything with my favorite French actor, TCHEKY KARYO! (Like La Femme Nikita, and Addicted to Love)
UN CHIEN ANDALOU (crazy French film, can't explain it, you gotta see it!)
TCHEKY KARYO, Turkish-Greek-French, ALL GOOD!! Incredibly sexy, even in his 50s...Just something ABOUT Him!!! ..
Television:
1. NORTHERN EXPOSURE - is still the best TV show ever!
2. THE X-FILES- One of the coolest shows ever. Still love to watch the reruns. Turned me into a SciFi chick, and that ain't easy.
3. LOST - love the ethnically diverse actors - it's about fricken' time! Mathew Fox is gorgeous!
4. LAW & ORDER- my mom got me hooked. All but the "trial by jury" ones.
5. British mysteries and comedies - Agatha Christie ones, ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS, KEEPING UP APPEARANCES, AS TIME GOES BY, whatever happened to "ALLO! ALLO!!"? INSPECTOR MORSE, MAIGRET, the one with CLIVE OWEN? He's a hottie too! (He should've been the next James Bond).
"Aren't We Fabulous, Sweetie Daaahhhhling!?"
6. Stuff on A&E, Bravo, History Channel, Discovery Channel, various cooking shows on FoodNetwork.
7. POPXPORT and POPJAPANTV
8. And I LOVE everything on DW-TV (Deutsche Welle TV)!!
9. TELEMATIN, on France TV 5 - whenever I get a chance to see it.
The GORGEOUS MATTHEW FOX from the TV show LOST, Wednesday nights @ 9pm. MY NEXT FUTURE EX-HUSBAND!!!!
Books:
DAUGHTERS OF COPPER WOMAN, by Ann Cameron - an amazing story of an Indian tribe in Vancouver, BC area. A matriarchial creation story that is woven throughout the history of the tribe, will blow you away. I Highly Recommend it to everyone!
THE UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF BEING, by Milan Kundera - was my favorite until I read Copper Woman. Love many of Kundera's books that I've read. Such beautiful, poignant titles, and a great storyteller - moving, sometimes funny in that European irony kind of way, and borders on sensual/erotic too!
THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy - yes, I got hooked and they are so hard to put down. Again, excellent storytelling and interesting language.
THE DAVINCI CODE - can't wait for the movie!
A FAREWELL TO ARMS, Hemingway
THE TOUGHEST INDIAN IN THE WORLD, by Sherman Alexie - anything by him, he doesn't "candy coat" history, tells it like it is/was, and a great sense of "Indian humor" that a lot of non-Indians don't know about.
OFF THE REZ, by Paula Gunn Allen
ALL MY RELATIONS, by Winona LaDuke
THE MORNING THE SUN WENT DOWN, by Daryl Babe Wilson - a moving, funny autobiography by this writer, of the Pit River/Achumawi tribe
WEAVING THE DREAM: MABEL MCKAY, by Greg Sarris, the biography of a Medicine WOMAN!/basketmaker of a Northern CA tribe, Miwok, I think(?)
POETRY:
SHAKESPEARE'S SONNETS - can always find something new in the same passages over and over again. Romantic, touching, and sometimes heart-breaking (of course, it's Shakespeare)
WB YEATS - still sentimental over this guy
JULIA ALVAREZ
LUCILLE CLIFTON
SHERMAN ALEXIE
WHAT THE MIRROR SAID
