My favorite band of all time, the Beach Boys.
My favorite female singer of the 60's and tied for my favorite female singer of all time is Dionne Warwick. I am always in awe of the amount of expression present in her voice. This is a timeless classic.
Prince is the most talented performer of our time. I believe that in 200 years, people will be studying his music as we do Beethoven, Mozart, and Bach. He is an amazing live performer and I'm very lucky to have seen him live. I LOVE PRINCE.
The Zombies, live. If you don't know them very well, please do yourself a favor and go listen to Odessey and Oracle.:
Sly and the Family Stone's music has been very influential on me, especially Sly's style of songwriting. He's a genius and he doesn't always follow traditional songwriting "rules," one of the many reasons why I love him.
Karen Carpenter has been one of my favorite artists since I was a very small child. My mother loves the Carpenters and it was one of only four tapes we had in the car at all times, the other three being the Supremes, the Temptations, and the Bill Cosby stand-up special featuring "Chocolate Cake for Breakfast." Here is some great footage of Karen drumming. Along with Dionne Warwick, Karen is my favorite singer of all time... and she left this world way too soon.
One of my favorite Bacharach songs ever. Please watch this song, as Chuck Jackson absolutely KILLS this song. He slays it.
Here is Dusty Springfield performing. I love love love me some Dusty.
Yes, I love Yacht Rock. I'm not ashamed to admit it.
Mr. Ennio Morricone conducting live. Ennio Morricone's music has such power and such emotion. It is no surprise that his movie scores are among the most unforgettable.
Mr. Esquivel at his finest:
Earth, Wind, and Fire has always been one of my favorite bands. I love the positivity of their music most of all.
Another totally awesome 70's band, The Fifth Dimension. I love their mix of psychedelic soul. And they were always dressed to the nines.Marilyn McCoo, if you're out there, you're beautiful!
Many people only know Jackie DeShannon for "What The World Needs Now," which is an okay song. I think this one is much better. She was also instrumental in getting the female singer-songwriter movement started in the 60's... so ladies, we owe her one!
SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST: Here is one of my all-time heroes, none other than Sylvester, the fabulous diva from the Bay Area. Sylvester's collaborations with Patrick Cowley (keyboards) proved to be very influential on modern dance music. ALSO when asked to "butch it up" a little more for meetings, Sylvester would come in full-on drag. He is missed, but his music lives on forever, fabulously.
Sounds Like: heaven, falling in love, the 1960's, believing again
