XAVIERS SOULFOOD/NIGHTCLUB 895 FRELINGHUYSEN AVENUE, NEWARK NJ 973 642-1415Hailing from Newark NJ (BRICK CITY) Charles got his taste of DJing from hanging out with DJ Dave Camacho doing JAMS @ summer leagues games,special events and parties in the area. Charles got his musical taste from his Father who use to play all sorts of music especially Soul music from Double Exposure, Isley's, Loleatta Holloway and many others. Around 1976 Charles got his DJing equipment and would study the mixing everyday which he learned a little from listening to New York's 98.7 KISS FM with Shep Pettibone and 92 WKTU. Around 16 yrs old Charles started doing Block Parties, High School Dances/Fashion Shows and Family Events. After graduating from High School Charles joined the military and was stationed in San Diego California. Being on the West Coast Charles landed gigs at clubs in the San Diego area and Seattle Washington at the age of 19. While traveling with the military Charles had the opportunity to DJ @ various clubs Overseas. After 5 yrs with the military Charles headed back to the East Coast to DJ for an Entertainment Company and after a few years under his belt he created his own Entertainment Company CHAUNCE ENTERTAINENT. In 2001 Working Underneath was formed to begin as a song writing/production team, with Charles Gatling and John Crockett. With the inclusion of a select few of the many vocalists that we've come across since that time, it became a collective of artists that contribute in various ways to the completion of quality, well conceived and constructed original compositions to be enjoyed by House music fans worldwide.Recently, Working Underneath has branched out to create they're own vehicles for getting their re-engineered New Jersey House sound to listening public. In Spring of 2004, they started two record labels- HausFlor Recordings (LLC) and Beige Understanding: severe sonic engagement (LLC). Before the birth of Haus Flor and Beige, Working Underneath has had songs release on Siesta Music, Phuture Sole Recordings, Gossip/UNDO (as Je'zus Bakflip) and Space Kat Records. "This Fire" and "Chase my Blues" will be available for downloads on www.beatport.com, and www.stompy.com.In 2005 Charles joined Leeds's own DJ Phil Hooton and they formed the production team The Jersey Katz. Currently Charles and Phil is working with Libby Jones and Joey Washington on individual projects. With these two Katz collaborating the result will be Soulful and Gospel House Music.
