DON'T LET THE LACK OF PIGMENT FOOL YA!!!

About Me

Let me introduce myself, for those that don't know my crazy ass!!! My name is Michael St. John, but I am better known as my DJ persona--WHYTEOUT! I took this name by combining a popular song at the time I started spinning(Blackout by Lil Louis) and the fact that the majority of the time--I was the only white guy at many of the DISCO parties I attended. Music always spoke to me--from my earliest memories on!!! I was always a "DANCER!" I eventually developed a desire to "control" what I and others were dancing to--so I started spinning in 1991. I was a hip house kid--yeah I said it. I had very limited exposure being a sheltered kid from the south suburbs of Chicago. Later that year--I went to my first DISCO party--RUSH and Armando Gallop(RIP) @ Medusa's--I was hooked. I immersed myself and learned about the music from any and every source I could. Soon I was playing regularly on the loft party scene(pre rave) in da CHI! This scene was based around Milwaukee Ave.(though parties sprung up everywhere) and included such DJ's as Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Diz, Lego, Frique, Traxx, Rush, Craig Alexander, Justin Long, Gene Farris, and others doing sets on a regular basis. The parties were heavy on the disco(the roots of house)--but included anything from underground house to old TRAX to techno to industrial music. As time progressed I moved from the underground to the club scene. I chose my own path musically and made what I felt was the natural progression for me. When I play today--I have a few goals I try to maintain. First and foremost I want to play good music. Secondly,and almost equally important, I don't want to be predictable. I don't want to be a "cookie cutter" DJ or a jukebox(only playing all the "Hits" everyone else is playing). My biggest frustration as a dancer has always been monotony--everyone playing the same shit. I take inspiration and influence from wherever I can find it, but I don't emulate any one person. I want to blaze my own trail--not stand in someone else's footsteps!!! This is an art form for me--ever evolving. I start each set with a blank canvas and see what I can create. It' liberating. It's a power trip--having control over your audience--their response to what you're doing--the exchange of energy between you and them!!!I've been lucky enough to do this thing I LOVE all over the country--Chicago, New York, New Jersey, DC, Baltimore, Miami, Hartford, Dallas, etc. It's been a great ride and it keeps getting better. In closing, I'd like to offer one piece of advice to ALL the DJs--NEW AND OLD--NEVER STOP LEARNING YOUR CRAFT OR YOUR MUSIC!!! AND DON'T LET YOUR EGO STOP YOU FROM DOING SO!!! PEACE!!! WHYTEOUT---------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------WHO I'D LIKE TO MEET(SINCE THIS SECTION DOESN'T EXIST ON A MUSIC PAGE)--Lovers of good music--especially HOUSE(Deep that is). People with integrity! People with morals! People of all colors that accept me for WHO I AM. I'm not saying I refuse to change and grow, but I do understand that I don't fit into a lot of people's box as to what they think a "WHITE BOY" should act like--and know this--I'm not "TRYING" to act like anything but me. I won't stereotype you if you don't stereotype me. Get to know me! You'll probably be surprised what you'll find! I have strong connections to quite a few cultures--in music and in life!!! I'd love to contribute to breaking down people's barriers instead of watching them build new ones! PEACE!(this.width 400 ? 400 : true);}
