Christopher McCray A.K.A "Gate-Ah" began singing at the age of Nine with the church youth choir in his hometown of Orange, NJ. Blessed with the gift of voice his solo abilities become apparent. Growing up in an environment where music came naturally, one of his first influences came from his grandfather who was a lead singer in the church Senior Choir. By the age of 15, McCray had a catalog of 50+ original songs. As a Lead Vocalist of the band Mystique he began performing Top 40 and original material at local venues.
After sending out numerous demos to various record companies, McCray's voice drew the interest of Grammy Award Winning Producer Kerri Chandler. Impressed with McCray's sultry voice, Chandler gave the vocalist his first big musical break to record with London Based record company Champion/Madhouse. This rest was history, McCray's first release was "Why Ya wanna do this to me" on the hit Dance compilation "A Basement A Red Light and A Feeling". His follow-up single "Shelter" debut on Shelter Records, which cracked the Billboard Dance Charts Top 100. Ironically, that single would go on to become a Garage House Classic.
In addition to being a vocalist, he is a exceptional Live perfromer, songwriter, and up and coming producer. The success on his projects with Kerri Chandler, Dennis Ferrer has facilitated his popularity internationally. The release of his 1996 smash hit "Get it Right" on Mad house was a favorite throughout the US and International club circuits. This project was followed by serveral successful releases including the 1997 release "Restriction" on King Street Records and Unconditional Love in 2000, a collabrative work with Dennis Ferrer. 2003 kicked off a successful release of "The Answer" featured on Kerri Chandler's Complilation CD "Trionispohere" and "Trionisphere Live at Yellow".
Now a resident of Atlanta, GA, this talented brother continues to exercise his writing ambitions by penning soulful inspirational lyrics to touch the world. McCray has been away from the musical scene for several years now and is ready to return music scene. The 2007 release of his new single "The One", a collabrative work with Atlanta based producer Anthony Hill and Amari Jackson of Standing Tree Entertainment, will set the stage for just that. ~Soul Endeavor Music
