'And so it goes...' R.I.P. Kurt V.

About Me

Have you ever been to the beach and brought sandwiches and then, later on, ate one of those sandwiches and discovered somehow that sand got inside one of them and then you became angry until you realized the irony of it all? Yeah... kind of like that but with guitars.

Aaaaaannnyway...

To be more specific... Take a classic 70s rock band and fuse with 80s college (think Athens Georgia) pop sensibilities. Then mix in some old-school punk, a touch of alt-country/southern, some 90s alternative and some crap from the new millennium and swish it around... Very much a melting pot! This band is as much at home on AOR Radio as it is on late night satellite garage. With a title inspired by Erich Von Daniken's "Chariots of the Gods?", the album "gOD was an ASTRONAUT" was released a few months ago. Within it's silicone grooves, moonfarm has put together a batch of tunes that echo vibrations of the past and approach the future with a sincerity and passion that a majority of "Modern Rock" or so-called "Alternative" has a tendency to lack. The moonfarm "story" started about a year and a half ago when Charles Phebus (voice) and Stephen Carroll(guitar) retired the name of their fomer band Love Canal after it had run its course (Love Canal had a deal with Sony Records and "Phisst", recording two CDs and touring their asses off...). After a few gigs as Milhouse, the band went into the studio and, with the help of engineer Keith Rose (Newfound Glory, Nonpoint), came up with an album that runs from sweet pop, to southern warbling, to angry fucking rock.Alas... drummer Joseph Martin left... sent to Germany for the love of a woman... bassist Dimitri Proano left for San Francisco for the love of... Well... Apple? The addition of second guitarist David Siclari, bassist Dana Dean and now the time has come to let people hear this shit...Earlier recordings from Phebus and Carroll received critical and popular praise, leading Ft. Lauderdales CITYLINK MAGAZINE to label them "a cliche-free, song oriented powerhouse...Phoebus's drama-rich vocals are both heartfelt and appropriate, ditto Stephen Carrolls modest but forceful guitar playing and the gutpunching rhythm section."Having once traveled the Southeast as Love Canal as well as playing with bands such as CREED, DISHWALLA, SUBROSA and MATCHBOX TWENTY , moonfarm intends to one-up its former moniker by taking things to the next level, whatever the hell that means.Look for them at a venue or dive near you.
Check out LoveCanalmusic on MySpace as well. Love Canal was the band that Stephen Carroll and Charles Phebus were in back in the day. They had a deal with Sony Records and toured the land of "Dairy Queens and Trampolines" (a new moonfarm song).

Influences: Uhhh... honestly? Everything and anything... any band/songwriter that tells you differently is a bullshitter. Popular Culture is so all encompassing and expansive that you can't help that it seeps into your brain. Hopefully if it's crap it seeps back out...
