Ministry Of Burlesque is the worlds largest burlesque organisation, holding events and workshops across the whole of the UK and abroad. Ministry Of Burlesque is also a huge online community - our site attracts well over 10,000 visitors every day - and a production/performance agency, representing the top burlesque and cabaret talent in the UK.
History Of The MoB:
Kittie Klaw formed the Ministry Of Burlesque in Glasgow back in 2000 originally as a student hobby with her friends. Back then, nobody had the faintest idea what burlesque was. The glory days of burlesque past were but a faint memory and the burlesque revival was still some years away. All the confused Glaswegians knew was that there was a troupe of bizarre students who used to go around the pubs and bars and dance in their novelty sized frilly knickers and social satire!
We skip forward to the beginning of 2003 and the Ministry Of Burlesque staged Scotlands very first burlesque event of the new era in collaberation with Hugh Reed and the Velvet Underpants! A couple more events followed until the evils of post graduate study called a temporary halt to the proceedings.
This now brings us to mid 2004. Kittie was at Edinburgh University studying a masters/PHD, specialising in parapsychology when her academic mentor unfortunately passed away. Unable to carry on with her course, Kittie decided to swap life in the laboratory for the bright lights of showbiz and so she packed her backs and headed on down to London armed with her collection of vinage corsetry and jolly optimism!.
It was here that she met James Malach , a successful internet entrepreneur who had just returned to England after living in Marbella and San Francisco for the previous two years. In keeping with Kitties ethic of 'public access theatre', James transformed the Ministry Of Burlesque into THE essential online information hub for the growing UK Burlesque scene.
The speed at which this happened took everybody by surprise!
Every day, thousands of burlesque lovers flock to the site to chat on the forums , check for local events in our listings, post casting calls and more.
The Ministry Of Burlesque also runs burlesque workshops in London, Glasgow and Brighton and we promote a range of exciting Burlesque events in different cities across the UK and abroad.
