Everybody knows turntablism is the future of music. Everybody knows that the skillset of the turntablist is unparalleled within the sphere of live performance. As the technology evolves and the turntable becomes a metaphor for manipulation of sound, so the turntablist's skills are adapted to meet the new challenges and embrace the new possibilities.
Yet what attracts us to the turntablist sound? The innocence, the raw energy, the technical control, the seeming impossibility of actually creating and holding a unique beat in real time?

HEY MICKEY
Nothing brings us closer to the 80s than the sound of Toni Basil and her cheerleaders, ushering in the pop culture that was to sweep away everything that had come before. Bubblegum lyrics, and equally chewy dance routines were no obstacle to the success of the original and in this 2007 reworking Mickey Morphingaz rebrands himself as the archetypal 21st century cheerleader, leading from the decks, and sending out the call we know and love so well... Hey Mickey you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind...
EMU
When questioned about Emus, Morphingaz replied, "Pretty scary when they're runnin' straight at ya! I used to feed them at the zoo and they would try and eat your whole arm. Let alone your little morphys!"
The Emu has a prominent place in Australian Aboriginal mythology, including a creation myth of the Yuwaalaraay and other groups in NSW who say that the sun was made by throwing an Emu's egg into the sky. The bird features in numerous aetiological stories told across a number of Aboriginal groups. The Kurdaitcha man of Central Australia is said to wear sandals made of emu feathers to mask his footprints.A child's memory of an emu provides the inspiration for this track, the perspective, the wonder, the sounds and the smells, the colours, the textures, the fears, the fun, the absolute joy.
PLATTERPUSSY
The unique features of the Platypus make it an important subject in the study of evolutionary biology and a recognizable and iconic symbol of Australia; it has appeared as a mascot at national events and is featured on the reverse of the Australian 20-cent coin. Platypuses have been heard to emit a low growl when disturbed. This platterpussy is an altogether more playful thing, not so much growling, as whistling a happy tune. The recorder takes us back to a time when fingers and thumbs were all we worried about, apart from ice cream, our favourite toys and staying up late. Breaking down the beat, Morphingaz syncopates and recollates rhythms of his own making, employing subtle psychoacoustic devices to ensure that the listening experience leaves us happier, more fulfilled, and ultimately ready to find the beat in our lives.
COOL
If music is a language, does music from a specific region have an accent? Just as the first children playing on the streets of Sydney, Australia, in the 18th century, gave birth to the distinctive aussie twang we know and love, so the Australian musicians of the 21st century are creating a new sound, bringing a unique Australian accent to the world of electronic production.Turntablism is one of the new faces of Jazz. With something as highly evolved as Jazz, global technical cross-pollination is fundamental to it's progress into the 21st century. Australian Jazz meets it's American, European, African & Asian counterparts head on in a fusion of technological wizardry, and technical mastery. With the track, Cool, Morphingaz brings it all home. Laid back yet euphoric, the effortless breaks and sampledelic vocal hooks remind us that as modern as she is, Australia is as young, beautiful, intelligent and funky as any of Planet Earth's brightest lights.
FLAMIN GALLAH
Calling someone a gallah in Australia is a traditional way of questioning their intelligence. "Ya flaming gallah" is as common in Oz as calling someone a "goose" in other parts of the world. Gallahs (the bird) do come across as being a little stupid as they waddle around eating grass seeds. So here's what we're gonna do. It's time our poor little dumb biird friends got a well deserved break. Over to morphingaz.
MOI AUSSIE
A serenade to the wild, a call to the outback, marimba strokes and lush percussive reverb layer together, wash across each other as the persisitent call of the wild turntable echoes across the lazy clubbers collective dreamtime.Strange memories of other countries, other peoples, strange tongues, exotic cuisines, and finally a sense that this is Australia, this is home.
