THOUGHT CLOUDS COLLECTIVE
The Thought Clouds are a group of common interests record collectors that just want to share there music with the people. Likeminded or not. Over the last two years they have done just that by taking their early aged apartment sessions to the masses by starting up the Lapa Lounge in Upland, Ca.
It is at this location where people on the outskirts of Los Angeles can enjoy the best in Reggae, Funk, Soul, Jazz, Brazilian Groove, Drum'n'Bass, and whatever else might be deep in the crates.
The Thought Clouds members include: Dantography, Ladybug, Mike.Styles, Stryke, Bmark, Mike B. and a large extended fam.
LAPA LOUNGE'S SELECTAS
STRYKE
Spinning for the past six years as well as working as a key member of the Infiniti Tribe and more recently the Thought Clouds Collective. Stryke has a keen sense of good music, how it should sound and how it should be structured. Stryke is known to tear the house down with whatever seems to fit the evening from early breaks sets to late night ragga sound events. He has recently been rocking the floor with his 45 funk suites, however, his catalog is even more extensive and he is one of the dopest reggae selectas that Southern California has to offer.
MikeStyles
MikeStyles, has been spinning records for the past five years. From a young age he always had an infatuation with his father's dusty record collection in the closet. Records that ranged from Average White Band to De La Soul's "3 Feet High and Rising" and that's not to mention the full jukebox in the garage. His dance floor selection ranges from Latin jazz, Brasilian groove, Funk, Soul, Hip Hop and a touch of Reggae. He has an obvious fetish for breaks, remixes and covers. MikeStyles often spins for local Scion events and has written mixtape reviews for URB magazine. In 2003 he released his debut mixtape "Leave A Message," equipped with awkward blends, remixes and fitting voiceovers. In 2005 after his first trip to Rio de Janeiro, Brasil he released "Obrigado" a Brasilian influenced mixtape full of bossa nova for beginners as well as some other treats. His most recent release from 2006 is "Lounge About Midnight," has songs from Astrud Gilberto, Sizzla, Gangstarr, and Marvin Gaye to name a few, it is a representation of what you would normally here him play during a live set. To him, it's just a little samba.
Ladybug
Ladybug is the newest member of the Thought Clouds Collective, but she is know stranger to the music. Looks can definitely be deceiving; this little lady is packing a fire fueled arsenal of reggae upon every trip. In early 2006 she released her infamous debut mixtape "FOR THE LOVEr's rock." From classic riddims, reworks and lover's rock Ladybug always turns heads when she gets into her 45 selections.
b.mark
Bmark has been on the music tip since birth. Infatuated with hip hop in his youth he found himself experimenting with emceeing, djing and producing in high school. He sold his home made underground hip hop mixtapes on campus to raise money to put straight back into his music. He eventually crafted himself in the production realm where his skills have evolved from a hip hop producer to a musician over the last seven years. In 2005 he self released The Rethought Remixes and Originals, an album featuring a slew of Bmark's interpretation of music from Bjork, Sizzla, Roni Size, this is not your average remix album and his originals are icing on the cake. In 2006 Bmark released Two Alone Meadows, an electronic testimonial of man connects with nature, rather than man vs. nature. This year he will be releasing his already finished, Brazilian influenced album that's as hot as Rio, as well as perhaps a couple of other projects that are currently in the works. When he steps behind the decks this homegrown artist is known to attract attention with his world review tied in with drum'n'bass and electronic ambience.
Dantography
Dantography has been a successful student of borrowed turntables. Earlier known for his unique photography and poetry, this musicologist has one dangerous record bag. Seeming to fit to any mood of any night, Dantography is known for his early hour jazz happenings and his midnight Motown era funk sets. However it is his ever so popular after hours electro samba get downs that normally keep everyone dancing until the lights turn on and security starts yelling. Dantography, the world traveler, has been to many places but Brasil is where he got his "ginga!"
Mike.b
Mike B. is no stranger to the game. Spinning for nearly a decade, he was heavily influenced by Turntable TV and skate videos. Over the last six years Mike B. has done independent work for URB magazine and Scion, touring some of the nation's most exclusive parties including the infamous 2003 Sprite Liquid Mix Tour and Miami's Winter Music Conference where he rubbed elbows with some of the most respected in the game. This tastemaker's ear pleasing sets usually include jazzy hip hop classics, neo-grooves and uplifting funk with loads of turntablist tricks done with precision.
GabeReal
An Inland Empire native, Gabe Real has been a Dj since 1988 playing all types of music at house parties, clubs, raves, radio, on tours, and in the studio. Aside from running the Ontario Stacksvinyl, Gabe serves as an organizer for the Foundation Funkollection, a community- based organization established to uplift and empower youth through hip hop culture by way of weekly events .
