I’ve always loved underground dance music since being introduced to the UK Garage and Jungle scenes by my brother back in 1995. Two years later, at the age of 13, I got my first pair of decks and started mixing garage. I started spreading mixtapes around school, moving on to playing at local parties and on the local pirate station, Trilogy FM, as well as at Destiny nightclub in Watford. By 1999, my tastes had matured and my selection was dominated by Drum & Bass.
I moved to Leeds to start University in 2003, and quickly got involved with the scene there, playing at events such as Metropolis, Central Beats, Jungle FX presents Champion Sounds, Elevated Sounds, Tremorz and Vibealight, supporting most of DnB's biggest artists along the way. It was in Leeds that I met like-minded DJ DL. We teamed up to host a very successful weekly radio show on the North's biggest DnB specialist station, Frequency 88.1FM every Saturday night, and started working together on production, as well as hitting it off together behind the turntables, earning us bookings across the country and as far as Paris. With our very popular "Pathfinders Vol. 1" mixtape, in early 2007, we won a Drum & Bass Arena competition to play at their Download website's launch party at London's Ministry of Sound - the video archive of this set has attracted over 3000 views.
Shortly before this event, we got in the studio with two more of Leeds' leading up & coming DJ/producers, Retro and Essence. We instantly clicked and decided to make it a regular thing, and so REDS (Retro, Essence, DL, Subtrak) was born. Check out our music HERE .
I am now based in London, where myself and DL host the REDS radio show every Tuesday night 6-8PM on Origin 95.1FM. We continue to work on music as REDS, so watch this space for new tracks!
A selection of mixes from myself and DL from the past few years can be listened to and downloaded on our MusicV2 page:
