Back as a teenager I listened to mainly rock and metal. I also played drums for a time. As I came to about 15 I grew really bored with the same repetitive power chords and drum patterns so went in search of something new. Got into dance music in a pretty roundabout way... I began listening to chilled breaks and hip-hop from the likes of Ninja Tunes, DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist & Jurassic 5. At the same time I started getting into other sorts of electronic music like AIR, lemon.jelly & Zero 7 - from this I learnt there was a whole world of amazing electronic music that wasnt jus hard house/trance banging your head against a wall music.
I first heard drum and bas at a house party when I was about 16. Whilst I was wandering from room to room the faint sound of Ram Trilogys Screamer became steadily louder. After standing open mouthed, staring at the booth hearing tunes like Skittles, Turbulence, Foreigner, Nine & Planet Dust for the first time it was no looking back. I began DJing about 6 months later once chris.jam, another member of the d.fazed crew, got his first set of decks. I began collecting vinyl and later that year got my own decks.
After around a year myself, chris.jam & Shocon began playing out at house parties in the local area joined by the slightly more adept Sic.Note & VKO. After several months and several house parties it became clear we had all found something we loved. Although we all went our different ways within the genre we still love the sound and so d.fazed was born as a name for us to all work under.
Now we have our own night in Manchester, run in conjunction with witnessthesickness, bringing the darkest of drum and bass to Scubar on the last Saturday of every month. See left for more details.
My drumming influence came back into play in 2006 when I began producing. After my tastes progressed from mainstream drum and bass into more dark/techy/neurofunk vibes I have really began to concentrate on the breaks and beats that make tracks up. I currently have tracks signed to Witness Records with d.fazed partner sic.note and hope to have further collaberations and solo releases landing soon.
My style can bee seen from my top ten below. I will update it every now and again so you can see where my style is going but basically we are going for dark/techy/neurofunky/deep/dirty/driving bass with intricate breaks and beats! Either that or come see me play! :D
