Ever wish that rock would take a few steps backwards?Believe it or not, there was a time when the genre served as more than a bullhorn for androgynous hipsters sporting $100 haircuts to whine into. There was also a time when it was a bastion for a jaded counterculture, one that was sick of corporate America spewing commercialization down its throat. Yes, there was a time when rock wasn't so, well, bloated. Pretty Ugly, the members of which hail from the Seattle and surounding areas, are the epitome of rock and roll's true essence. Basically, they are four self-deprecating, unpretentious, don't-care-about-nothin' miscreants. They are the dregs of Generation X/Y, representing the burgeoning ranks of 20-somethings who don't fit into Society Inc. Most refreshingly, they make authentic music, stripped of all the posturing and pretenses that suffocate today's corporate radio While its sound is nowhere near retro, Pretty Ugly's influence is combed across generations of rock. From roots-metal Black Sabbath to hardcore percussions, the band's edgy sound and attitude hark back to rock in its most raw form.
