Chris was previously the bassist with Seattle's Vegas In Flames, a band he played in with ex-Coffin Break (Epitaph Records) drummer Dave Brooks. Chris toiled in indie and/or punk bands too numerous to mention through the 1990's and 2000's, and with these acts variously played The Sunset Tavern, The Crocodile Cafe, The Fun House, Chop Suey, El Corazon, The Rainbow, The Monkey Pub, The Fenix Underground, The Lobo, and the beloved but now defunct Hideaway.
Anyway, Chris loved playing with Vegas In Flames but grew restless with the sideman thing at some point. Around then he began referring to himself in the third person on public Web sites and, more importantly, recording songs in a digital home studio. He laid down vocals, guitar, and bass on these latest recordings, all of which were done on-the-quick and in-the-raw. Andy played drums. Steve, a survivor of New York City's club circuit, is playing bass with the live band. The band that is Chris Mess has a sound firmly rooted in the indie punk aesthetic, with a smattering of absurdity and vocal craziness a la The Mars Volta or The Darkness. The Chris Mess EP has received airplay on KEXP 90.3 FM's "Audio Oasis". Chris Mess is playing local shows NOW.
