MONOLITH? E.S.P.? INSOMNIA MUSIC? Hell yea!!!

About Me

LANCECAPESince being born on December 29, 19**, of Macedonian, Ukranian and Canadian (specifically Newfoundland) decent, Aaron Lance Hunt a.k.a. Lancecape was raised on various forms of music. From his father, he took in all the classic artists like Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Bob Marley, James Brown and Curtis Mayfield. From his mother, he experienced music that ranged from Bob Dylan to Prince to The Beatles. With an abundance of musical influences in his life, Lancecape became aware of his destiny one night at a family outing. Seconds after one of his cousins put a record on the turntable, “Paul Revere” by the Beastie Boys blared through the speakers, and Lancecape’s love for hip-hop was born. Every Christmas thereafter, Lancecape - instead of asking for toys - was asking for albums from Run DMC, MC Lyte, Boogie Down Productions, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G. Rap, Maestro Fresh-Wes, Michie Mee, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, A Tribe Called Quest and a list of others that could go on for days.As the years went on, Lancecape wanted to indulge in his love for music by stepping up and getting involved in it. He teamed up with his hockey team mate, public school friend and now notable Canadian hip-hop artist, Nish Raawks and began rapping over instrumentals that they had been recording off the radio. They even came up with what they called “pause tapes”: beats that they continuously looped on cassettes. These were the humble beginnings of Lancecape, the producer now known for some of hip-hop’s most bass-heavy, sample-dirty and rugged beats. While attending high school, Lancecape met Korry Deez and Black Cat of the infamous hip-hop trio, Irs. Together, they would buy old, dusty, used vinyl and go back to Korry’s house to gain inspiration for the loops and samples that they would all create their masterpieces from. Soon after purchasing a Casio FZ-1 sampling keyboard and an Atari 10-40st as the sequencer, the boys now had the ingredients necessary to make their magic. Two years later, Lancecape became a member of probably the most influential (while most slept-on) hip-hop crew in Toronto, the “mighty” Monolith. Joining such a crew has allowed Lancecape to tour throughout Canada, DJing for the likes of the now legendary Dan-e-o and Wio-K during the Beat Factory Rap Essentials tour in 1996 and 1997. As both a producer and DJ for Monolith, Lancecape was also an integral piece to both the production and performance of the group’s first joint effort in 1998, The Long Awaited….Today, Lancecape is finally stamping his name in to the heads of hip-hop lovers worldwide. After years of producing numerous songs for the likes of Grimace Love, Nish Raawks, Dan-e-o, Irs, Skitz and Jo-Twice, his beat CD landed in the hands of two of his favourite underground MCs: Detroit’s Frank N Dank. They immediately fell in love with his style and soon recorded the banger “What Up” – the first single and video from the re-released album, Extended Play 3.13.Receiving heavy rotation on both college and commercial radio, “What Up” has been distributed all over the world on CD and vinyl making it Lancecape’s biggest recording to date. This is just the beginning for Lancecape. You can continually count on him to be an innovator in the years to come. Now with three music videos under his belt (“At First Sight” by Grimace Love, “T.N.T.” by Dan-e-o and “What Up” by Frank N Dank), he has cemented his status as a force to be wreckoned with for years to come!
