About Me

Probably the only Round Table punk band in the whole world!! (All the Band are / were members of that fantastic hard working worldwide blokes charitable institution.) Basically we play our own stuff, punk covers and our versions of other peoples songs.Whats the Crack then ? Well, for 3 of us in the band its a good deal of nostalgia, rather than protest (albeit this Government is a disgrace) Our formative teenage years involved punk rock, the music that helped get rid of an era of bad taste, of fake american accents in every song on the radiogram and an opportunity to complain noisily that life for young people was just pretty crap. Loved the attitude, loved the music, loved the style and how it upset the older generation. It just summed up our teenage years.Well, we just love playing, we're bloody enthusiastic and if we can do that, have a laugh, please a few people and raise a few bob for charity, then thats what its all about.A bit of history now:Greg bumped into Julian at a Vibrators gig in Ilfracombe in October 2004. we were both pretty drunk and hadn't known that we had the same taste in music. Got talking and established that we both played instruments, had been in bands in our younger days and been thrown out for being rubbish. An off the cuff suggestion was that we form a band. Apparently, Table's Chairman Mark Roberts had been known to pick up a bass guitar from time to timeand was fond of the punk genre. Interestingly, he also had been dismissed from a band for being rubbish - what a great recipe for a punk band we thought. Formed initially as a one off to play Chairman's night in March 2005, that wasn't enough. We dragged in another table member and local karaoke artist Ian Gates to the band - he promptly went off on holiday and missed Chairman's night. After many practices, the view was that we weren't that bad, we were having fun and we should carry on until it stopped being fun. We played a couple of gigs in a village hall and a school fete (sadly pissed as farts, which would have been ok if we were any good at that time). Alas the pressure of full time fame became too much for Mr Gates and we found ourselves without a lead singer through the summer. We wanted to carry on so the search was on for a new man!At the end of the summer 2005, we engaged the services of Joel Cooper, a young man around town who brought with him not only his voice, but an extra guitar as well, improving the overall sound no end. He also brought youth and managed to get the average age of the band down to 37, which was nice. He has failed so far however to bring the legions of young totty to see the band that us oldies were banking on. (We're now relying on Mark's daughters for that)Since December 2005 we gigged pretty regularly (about 18 gigs for 2006) and going from strength to strength (honest!) 2006 was an interesting year with a headlining gig at The Landmark, a gig in Romsey, Function Band for the local GP's , Ilfracombe Carnival on the Council Float and the Ilfracombe Birdman event when we were on the bill with a load of well known bands.June 06 saw Joel taking a "trip round the world" - I think that means journey round the world as opposed to being high on ganja (which incidentally, I've never seen him have). So, we had a changed line up for the Summer, kicking off at The Marlboro Club. Herman (of ateates fame) on vocals together with a metal influenced but highly talented young fellam'lad by the name of Jamie "Z" (aka Shaggy from Scooby Doo) on rhythm guitar. Thanks lads - . Both introductions helped to substantially reduce the average age of the band to 32!!! Jesus - nearly young again! We've realised that you can't please everyone all the time - there are quite a lot of purists out there who will not entertain / hire cover bands (which We're struggling not to be). On the other hand, there is many an audience who want to hear at least a few well known songs. So, the trick seems to be get enough songs together to be able to play a covers set for those who want it and another set for those who only want to hear original stuff. Easier said than done.2007 - Things rolled along very nicely, with a number of gigs under our (studded) belts. One of the main hghlights was the Marlboro Club gig on Friday 13th April all round and in particular, in terms of international audience participation (!). We've also managed to get a fair deal of publicity in the local press - "Round Table Anarchists still going strong after 2 years.." mmm... well, it made us laugh. BIRDMAN 2007 ! A fantastic day, if only most of us had chance to enjoy it ! (we were the organisers). The nearest we'll ever get to rock stardom no doubt, what with a big stage, a huge F*ck off music system, tour bus, cider and strange white powder blowing around (either talc or stuff from a fire extinguisher?). BIRDMAN was also notable for it being Joel's last gig with the band - thanks Joel for a bloody interesting 2 years ! After a few gigs at the end of 2007 we were chuffed that James "Party Boy" Evans joined the band on guitar / vocals. The end of 2007 saw Mark "Nobby " Roberts suffering quite badly with his dodgy ear / brain and taking some time off to recuperate. The show must go on ! so, we were pleased as punch that electronics wiz and local comedian Jason Polson joined the band on a semi permanent / temporary (god knows) basis as bass player extrordinaire. sADLY, the offer of a lucrative modelling contract in the South took Jase away from us (in body but not spirit). Alas, the curse of fame struck again with James retiring from the punk rock biz to concentrate on work, family ...and more partying !!2008 - April saw the return of the Nobby and alcohol fuelled musical mayhem at the Marlboro. Some great gigs await. Can we please have another guitarist please. My World Visitor Map!

Also Abba and Bucks Fizz.
Sounds Like: Hopefully, our own stuff sounds original to us - I’d say it’s tuneful old school punk - tuneful like a lot of stuff from 77 and 78, but with the simplistic harder edge of the later punk years. We’ve "punkified" a few other band’s songs and hopefully we sound quite like the original songs that we cover. This is the current setlist : Falling Apart (our signature tune) Teenage Kicks (Undertones) American Idiot (Green Day) Anarchy in the Uk (Sex Pistols) Just What I needed (The Cars - our version) Warhead (U K Subs) We’ve Been Sussed (Our song) My Perfect Cousin (Undertones) If the Kids are United (Sham 69) Bling up North (Our song) Rising Sun (our version of the Animals House of..) Cum on Feel the Noize (Slade - punky version) New Rose (The Damned) Pretty Vacant (Sex Pistols) nO gOVERNMENT (2006) (ANTI PASTI) Don’t fcuk with ’Combe (our song in honour of Nick Pullen) Lords Prayer (TV Smith) Jingle bells (punk style) Ever fallen in Love (Buzzcocks) Currently working on "Nanny State", our comment on the...nanny state. Rockaway Beach (The Ramones) I fought the law (The Clash)Have a look / listen to "No Government" filmed with one widgy camera, no recording equpment, instructions not to "move about" and a cast of about 10. Pretty good result I’d say.No Government 2006
