..
Well, for those who don't know my name is Alan, I was born in Blackburn, Lancashire (home of the much talked about '4000 Holes') in April 1965, a good year for selling Beatles records! I was pretty much obsessed by music from the get go, a glam rock kid with a paper-round, thus a huge collection of singles! And a bedroom with 'Our Kid' covered in Slade posters. When Punk came along my sinker was pretty much hooked and lined!! I made it my mission to get involved somehow, a mission which has seen pretty near all my heroes become friends. I guess I never knew that one day they would all be on speed-dial, so I'm glad I was at enough early gigs to get it...
Like all music industry 'wanna-be' kids, the path to London was soon so well trod, that even my parents were asking; "When are you moving there?"
So move here I did, to Maida Vale to be exact, pretty near where Sid & Nancy once lived on Pindock Mews. I have written wagon loads of books, you'll find 'em on Amazon, when your not busy mixing me up with the geezer who directed 'The Life of David Gale'. I guess I'm best known in that world as the official biographer of Sid Vicious (a title I have his mother to thank for - bless ya Anne)although there are still a few surprises to come I promise, and I don't mean Sid releated ones!
I have been a consultant at EMI Records since 2000, thus I have seen quite a bit of the world by travelling with bands, believe me there is no substitute for Leeds in the rain... Ha! I'm lucky enough to have worked in TV and DVD too (thanx Don) and I love it all, let me tell you.
I still have a million ideas and as many plans, so keep your eyes peeled it's on it's way... Whatever it might be!
I'd like to thank my wonderful agent (Marcella), most of my Top 40 Friends on here. Mr Mick O'Shea for his other million ideas, one day the world mate. And I'll see you in the tatto shop, if I'm not signing yer book in The Spice of Life first...
Some folks dream of the wonders they'll do
Before their time on this planet is through
Some just don't have anything planned
They hide their hopes and their heads in the sand
Now I don't know who is wrong, who is right
But if by chance you are here for the night
Then all I need is an hour or two
To tell the tale of a dreamer like you...
We all dream a lot - some are lucky, some are not
But if you think it, want it, dream it, then it's real
You are what you feel
But all that I say can be told another way
In the story of a boy who's dream came true
And he could be you...
Was it all worthwhile? Was it worth the sacrifice of talent, and the shocking sums of money poured down our throats into our protesting stomachs?
Was it worth the waste of time? Oh yes! We had fun! Everything was positive, not a waste at all. Compared to today’s world-weary pessimism, it was a time of innocence and hope.
Anything could happen, and, for some of us it did...
