Hello, i'm 'Sophie', i play the part of Nancy Spungen, or rather 'Nancy Pungent'(!) for the worlds greatest tribute show band the Sex Pistols Experience! I can't make it along to every gig but i'm usually around & about at most of them, maybe selling the merch', or running around after the band for drinks etc, come and say 'hello' if you see me.!? (i like Vodka & Diet coke please!) I'd been a dancer & singer in the past so always enjoyed the live music scene, but became involved in the Nancy part when the S.P.Ex were asked by the BBC t.v company to take part in a documentary all about the Sex pistols, they needed a 'Nancy' character to play the part for the filming.. suddenly all eye's turned to me..!?? Next thing i know i've got my head in the sink having my hair bleached, & then sat in the make-up chair being made to look like a drug taking prostitute!! It's a role i took to easily! (joke!)
A few weeks later when the band wanted me to go & tour America with them we we're stood in line at the U.S embassy in London waiting to get our passports stamped that one of the boy's noticed my birth date on the form, by a bizarre twist of fate it happens to be 12/10/78. The Same day Nancy was murdered in New York's Chelsea Hotel i was being born in hospital in York England.!I've had, (& am still having) tremendous fun playing Nancy, i've appeared in other TV documentaries for the BBC, Sky tv, & Ch4, and i've been 'murdered' once again recently for the movie 'Who killed Nancy?' adapted from the Alan Parker book 'No-one is innocent'. Being Nancy has also taken me to corners of the world i would never have otherwise of seen, but most importantly to me, i've met some of the nicest & coolest people along the way that i otherwise wouldnt have been able to, & i'm happy to call many of them 'Friends' now.
Here's the promo clip from the latest & best film i've ever been lucky enough to be involved with acting as as 'Nancy' - this time directed by Sid/Pistols biographer Alan.G.Parker in an attempt to present the real facts surrounding the tragic events in room 100 of the Hotel Chelsea New York on October 11th 1978....'Who killed Nancy?' will begin with a (Press & V.I.P invite only) premier showing at the Leicester Square Theatre London, on 2nd February - (no need to point out the relevance of that date) Followed by an after show party with a live appearance from the 'Sex pistols Experience' band (& friends!?) ;-)
A U.K selected cinema release will follow on Friday 6th February, & to Dvd by Monday 23rd February, everything, intentionally being kept within February - so the 30th anniversary of Sid's untimely departure could not be better - & with the final edit being a closely guarded secret - lets hope its really does set the record straight & shed new light on the unfortunate circumstances that led to death of Nancy Spungen & the World to ask "was Sid Vicious innocent?"
