Bleeping Into The Future

About Me

(Liner Notes From 'Planet Delsin'-compilation by Techno Rebels' author Dan Sicko, June 2005)
No other label has managed to do it.
In a loose, oblong orbit around Detroit techno's sun, Delsin has managed to soak up enough radiation to be just as bright and warm. This is no easy feat, taking over twenty years of techno history and mythology and creating a new pattern that resonates like the original. But over the course of thirty-six singles and twelve albums, this Dutch satellite has succeeded.
Like many other label endeavours, the Delsin sound was first propelled by Detroit's energy. Where it differs is how consistently it has fed off of it without dissolving into cult worship. There has been enough mutation to allow the label to survive, outlasting the ephemeral pursuit of extremes: the ultra-fast, the clinically minimal, the ambient. Delsin's genius has been finding an infinitely expanding universe in the middle.
Having cracked the code, the label has not lost touch with Detroit's soul. The compilation you hold in your hands is testament to that fact. The comfort of the innovators is deeply ingrained in the work of Aroy Dee and Peel Seamus, and swells in and out of the rest of the material, sometimes in more playful and surprising places. It is in this atmosphere where the digital skulduggery of $tinkworx sounds perfectly logical next to the interfaces with the most experimental breakers of beats.
So now Delsin has its written own history, codified as the “Interplanetary Sounds of Stardust.” The motif seems fitting, as so much of techno lore leans on the exploration of space. With the city that gave techno music life still suffering from an identity crisis and structural problems physical and political, it's nice to be able to escape to another planet.
That's pretty much what Derrick, Kevin and Juan were thinking so many years ago.
