Just when US house music seems dangerously close to basking in the glory days of classics, veteran techno-come-house music producer, Dennis Ferrer throws a fierce curve ball, shaking things up again on the dance floor.
His latest venture, “A Black Man in Space,†(Objektivity) silences any doubt the masses are ready for a potent shot of minimal techno meets soul - a funky, techie track from the forthcoming album, “The More Things Change†(Objektivity).
Ferrer’s debut CD, “The World As I See It,†(King Street / Defected) seamlessly delivered the goods upon its 2006 release with undeniable club anthems “Touched the Sky,†“Transitions†and the soulful “Church Lady.†Even the 2005 powerhouse “Son of Raw†(Ibadan) resurfaced as an added bonus.
In fact, much of 2007 proved a stellar year for the versatile songwriter/producer with a keen ear and discerning eye. At the helm of independent label, Objektivity, Ferrer continues to hit his stride on signature bass-laden productions with the likes of Karizma, Abicah Soul and The Martinez Brothers.â€
To date, Ferrer’s resume reads like a who’s-who in dance music’s
pantheon: “Reach For Freedom†(King Street), “Funu†(Basic), Ferrer & Sydenham Inc, ‘Sandcastles†(Ibadan) along with classic remixes of works by Blaze and Barbara Tucker, Reel People, Fish Go Deep and, recently, the white-hot Telepopmusik’s, “Love Can Damage Your Health†(Objektivity).
Looking forward to 2008 he continues to take chances on the unpredictable – think, current remix project with Scandinavian songstress Ane Brun, a new series of drum tools inspired by his Buzz Beats (Objektivity) tech anthem and a modernist house remix approach to the Reel People, neo soul vocal “Alibi†(Papa).
