DJ Clarkee

About Me

dj Clarkee, djing since the 70's and still right on the pulse. The secret to"house" music, the music Clarkee adores, is that the beat moves in sync with a human heartbeat 120--140 bpm. It is the optimum work rate for your heartbeat and isn't a new find. Tribal people tapped into this centuries ago, dancing themselves into a trance like state. Clarkee AKA Phillip Clark likes to take his listeners on a journey of lows and highs, he's sensitive to the crowd and enjoys playing to people that understand this. He's played with the likes of : Armand van Helden, Sasha, Bassment Jaxx, Doc Martin, Dj Sneak, Eric Morrillo, Miguel Graca, Roy the Roach, Phil Asher, Roy Davis jnr, Kevin Yost, dj Hipp-e, Faze Action, Funky Green Dogs, Judge Jules, Sonique, Wamdue Kids,Paul trouble Anderson, Dave Mothersole ,Breeze plus a host of local djs to many to mention. Owned and ran Quaff records Auckland, the 1st undergound record store. Played Sydney with Terry Francis and Paul Trouble. "the Underground" in kings cross, which had a vibe like a London Club ,sadly the club got raided and that was the end of it. Played Velvet Underground London. B,,,,rooms swansea. Malaysia, Kula lumpar and genting highlands. nz from the top Kaitaia to invercargill. In 2001 Clarkee was djing at the infamous exclusive Club "FEEL", where he was resident dj. He teamed up with a young saxophonist by the name of Tim Hopkins. Feel was a late night club that musicians, hospo, entertainers,Drag-artists,pimps,hookers, and late night people would come after all but everywhere had closed. Tim would get his tenor sax out and they would play wonderful music together. Out of this came "The Gordon Bennett Project" firstly a two piece, then joined by Maya Dorcil a Haitian Conga player a three piece group. For the next 2 years they played separately and together as a group. Touring the country playing at jazz fests and wine fests. For four years running they played at the wonderful Gisborne wine festival, for Milltons Winery. Not only did they pull the biggest crowds for Milltons, they were able with Milltons help release a double live album, which still sounds fresh and exciting. The finale of the group was to play at a big outdoor festival in Malaysia, up in the Genting highlands to 15,000 people. Performing with Funky green Dogs from Miami and Faze Action from the UK. Then a couple of months later In Singapore for Heineken Green Room Sessions at a large club in the Orchard rd area. After that the guys wanted to concentrate on independent projects like producing their own music to play, to groove,to enrich ones life a little more spiritually and hope that sense will prevail in a world gone mad with Power.
