KEITH RODGERS, professionally known in the music industry as INSANE MACBETH is the producer/ artist/ proprietor of a record company called INSANE RECORDINGS, based in south LONDON, in the UK.
Insane Macbeth has been involved in the UK Rap scene since the late 1980s. He was associated with two of the most prominent cliques of the nineteen eighties.....these being THE SINDECUT/ ORIGINAL FOUNDATION; and HIJACK, or rather their clique THE HQ [HUNTED QUARTERS (KATCH 22; STANDING OVATION; THE ICEPICK & THE ZOMBIE HEADHUNTERS; 17TH HANGMEN)].
He started getting into music production in 1987, after attending studio sessions of DJ. FINGERS (THE SINDECUT); FRESHKI & MO' ROCK; and a school friend of his called APOLLO BELLADONA. His first group was called JUST 2, in which Insane Macbeth and DADDY ABEL (the emcee) created two demos in 1989. These were called "A DEADLY DOSE", and "NAME A NOMINEE". However, these demos were unreleased.
Insane Macbeth later hooked up with a north London emcee called KINETIC EFFECT (who used to be in a crew called 2 THE TOP, and first went by the name of D-KOY EMCEE) and susequently recorded a track called "BORDERIN' INSANITY" in 1991. After initially professionally manufacturing numerous tapes for the community of BRIXTON (where Insane Macbeth is from), he gave Tim Westwood a tape to play on radio (he was on Capital Radio at the time). Due to the positive response from Westwood, Insane Macbeth decided to put together a business plan. The plan was successful, in which funds of £4000 were obtained. Insane Macbeth decided that he and Kinetic Effect would re-record "BORDERIN'.....", as well record a second track called "BEYOND THE PARAMETERS OF AMATEURS". These tracks were recorded at JOE'S GARAGE STUDIO, and were recorded & mixed on a Solid State Logic G-SERIES mixing console. The single was released in 1993, with limited edition 500 green vinyl. The debut 12" single was primarily a battle-fuelled release, with the lyrics using similie, stanza, metaphor, prose, alliteration, nuance, oxymoron, euphemisms, aphorisms, cadence & esoteric dexterity. From this point on, Insane Macbeth set a premise for the soon-to-be founded Insane Recordings. This premise was: "BE PROFESSIONAL IN THE RECORDING & MIXING PROCESS; AS WELL AS THE PACKAGING & MARKETING OF PRODUCT RELEASED ON MY IMPRINT!!!
Insane Macbeth later released a second 12" single with Kinetic Effect called "MAN BITES DOG (CONSTRUCTION OF A SOCIOPATH)", b/ w "THE EFFECT OF FEAR". This single was released in 1997, and was recorded & mixed on the Amek-Angela mixing console. He later recorded a mini-LP with K.E. called "THE 'MORTIS' EXPERIMENTS". This project was recorded in 1997 as well, but was never released though (but may see the light of day, one day!). Using the Mackie 24-Bus mixing console, this project, like the "Man Bites Dog" 12", was very dark & abstract in nature.
In 1999, Insane Macbeth started recording his solo album, and wished to record with such UK Rap luminaries such as CRAZY NODDY (THE SINDECUT); HUNTKILLBURY FINN (KATCH 22); KINETIC EFFECT; THE ICEPICK, GRIZZLY & SHAKA SHAZZAM (HUNTED QUARTERS); and also introduced to the UK Rap fraternity an emcee called THE RIPPER.
In 2000, Insane Macbeth was ready to unleash "THE 'RETARDATION' PROJECT" onto the market [there were 2 seperate original cover artworks: both containing 2 seperate images of the legendary UK blak adult entertainment star, CHARMAINE SINCLAIR}. Being very excited about this project, he pressed up 150 promotional white labels, with a view of the album obtaining a full release. Disappointing therefore, that the world never got to hear this album either. This project essentially, was a reflection of Insane Macbeth's world-view, and a move away from the abstract expressionism of K.E.'s releases.
In 2001, Insane Macbeth decided to release a single off the album. "TRUE HEART", featuring The 'Legendary' Icepick (who featured on the legendary Hijack album "THE HORNS OF JERICHO", on the RHYME SYNDICATE/ WARNER BROTHERS imprint, owned by ICE T) was released, due to the 'heat' it obtained, particularly on hip-hop radio shows in the UK. The single was released again in 2005, with limited edition special red vinyl, for all collectors (this 12" single is still available). The 'Legendary' Icepick here displays street narration & a battle mentality, containing vicious, spiteful diction, rarely heard in UK Rap. This 12" single release is definitely an accurate reflection of Brixton, south London.
Future projects include "THE HEAT" EP , featuring The 'Legendary' Icepick; the "GANGSTER TENDENCIES, GANGSTER INTENTIONS" EP, which contains a track featuring RUFSTYLZ called "UNFUCKWITHABLE". How would I-Mac describe "Unfuckwithable"? Well, the track has that classic Insane Macbeth feel, that inimitable style of laying down vicious soundbeds....and contains adept linguistic phraseology, phonetic wordplay, bars that contain levities that'll leave the listener in stitches (figuratively), onomatopoeia combined with alliteration, as well as interesting cadences. A propos of Rufstylz's dexterous mic work, it can be said that the world record holder for the longest freestyle, writes at a very high calibre. I.M. is to record two more tracks with Rufstylz, tentatively called "SIKKAMORE STYLZ"and "POLYSYLLABIC". The EP will also contain a track with east London's KARL HINDS named "CAN'T, COULDN'T, COULD NEVER", Canning Town's one-and-only MALARCHI (who has had two UK top 40 singles) titled "U DON'T KNO'", which contains street narration of the highest order, with venom, charisma, articulation...plus he is able to enunciate clearly certain situations and frustrations that I.M. has had to deal with, within the British rap industry; the Brixtonite, and C-Town resident have recorded a second track together, called "LAST CALL", with that signature killer incidental music; another collabo is imminent, because of this new-found chemistry between I.M. & MALARCHI - a remix/ refix of "LAST CALL"...the new track called "MASTERPIECE", plus tracks called "GANGSTER NO. 1", "MISS YOU OUT", "TUFF TITTIE", "HAS-BEENS", "SOUNDTRACK TO MY LIFE", "WALK INTO THE LION'S DEN", "ENTERTAINMENT", "STICK MAN", "BODYSNATCHERS, NIGHTSTALKERS, KILLERS" (a posse cut with Malarchi, RAWALITY, Karl Hinds, Malik, and K-Lash-Nek-Off); "MILLIONAIRE DREAM", "FOOL'S MATE", "YOU'RE GONNA KNOW ABOUT ME!", and "INTERNATIONALLY KNOWN", plus a track with Nottingham representative CAPPO called "INFINITE". Birmingham's SEROCEE & I.M. are also going to do a collabo...the provisional title being "I'LL DO YOU SUT'N (I'LL HURT YOU)"...a track with lyrics that'll convey imagery so apparent, that the listener may well think it be true-to-life. The MAN will also be collab-ing with MALIK of MOORISH DELTA 7. All tracks up to now, have been recorded & mixed primarily on the Amek TAC Scorpion MKII console. From June 2008, all new tracks will be recorded & mixed on the Sabre Plus mixing console. I.M. also anticipates working on a double cd album called "THE 'GOING ALL OUT' PROJECT"; as well as updating the website. www.insanemacbeth.com is now online [online from 17th February 2006]. I. M. also has desires to work with Hackney's RICOCHET KLASHNEKOFF, aka. K-LASH-NEK-OFF...and has endeavoured to contect with The Black Russian, on numerous occasions. K-lash juxstaposes his narrational abilities, with schematics...or a mental model of urban life in the capital city, and it is the vividness and accuracy of his descriptiveness, which intrigues I-Mac...in which this is the appeal and desire to connect with him. Insane Macbeth is also planning to work on a dvd, documenting his career. I-Mac, along with his recent biznizz trip to New York, also plans subsequent business trips to Jamaica (I'm always inna 'Yard, at least twice a year!!!], L.A., and JAPAN, in the imminent future, which means that he will be busy for a while!!! I.M is up for working with any talented emcees & vocalists (I am particularly looking for a 'marketable' femcee). Hence, business opportunities can be exploited, given the chance. A specialist Japanese record distributor is also required, in order to move large quantities of product for Insane Recordings, as well as management in both the UK & USA. I.M. wishes to maneouvre strategically, within various markets.
