DOLLSHOUSE are wrapped in a richly historic pop blanket. Guitarist Martin Brett was the bass guitarist of 80s/90s chart stars VOICE OF THE BEEHIVE, who reformed briefly to tour the UK with the WONDERSTUFF last year. Martin has taken the pop sensibilities of VOTB, turned the knob to 'rock', halved the female vocals and pretty much continued in the same vein. The fantastically named Alexandra Palace (her mum is called Crystal) fronts the band's kittenish, hook-laden pop-rock and perhaps their finest song encapsulates the band's ethos perfectly. "Go! Go! Go! (Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!)", is surely the first song to ever feature six exclamation marks in its title, typifies Dollshouse's vital energy (not to mention Palace's sexy stage persona) and makes them an engaging live act not to be missed. With the awesome Alec Boston from USA on Bass Guitar the band write and perform awesome, powerful, pop tunes. The band come from SW London and have recently been gigging in the USA. The bands debut album "Happiness Is Toy Shaped" got rave reviews in the USA and is currently getting heavy rotation on the US college radio circuit. ----------(THE GUARDIAN NEWSPAPER):----------"As Alexandra Palace sings "Baby Baby come out with me" it is apparent that her tone might be resembling her idol Chrissie Hynde" ----------"The cool cat underground sound remains the DOLLSHOUSE signature with Martin Brett's guitar roaring like a Harley in the distance" ----------"A cocktail of Blondie punk" ----------"Alexandra Palace's voice creates a mirage of a Transvision Vamp over Pretenders-style guitar rock" -----------"The lead singer's delivery is always stylised with demonic low whispers
bringing drama to stage performances" ----------(REVIEW - BUZZ Rock Magazine California USA March 2008)(Playing in the Dollshouse
By Bill Biss) ----------Dollshouse is a band that brings to mind the essence of motorcycles revving and the hardened shine of a leather jacket. Their debut CD called Happiness is Toy-Shaped is a punkish collection of songs with an ignited guitar rock edge.In the tradition of X, The Pretenders and Romeo Void, lead vocalist Alexandra Palace is the heart and tension of the band. She can sing and sing well, from a whisper to a scream.Dollshouse hails from the U.K. and lead guitarist Martin Brett knows how to bring the good girl/bad girl sound to the forefront. He created great music formerly with The Voice of the Beehive in the 1980's and 90s.So, get tough and step on the clutch. Dollshouse is bad ass and good music for when you want to spit that bubblegum out of your ear and tune into a rough and ready sampling of edgy and spirited rock. -----------(BBC 1 TV - CEEFAX GIG REVIEW - THE WATER RATS - KINGS CROSS) ----------Guitarist Martin Brett was in Voice Of The Beehive and anyone who recalls their honeyed 90's bubblegum pop will have an idea of how this band sounds.
Singer Alexandra Palace has an accesible sultriness and an equally natural stage presence. They have several potential classic songs in their set and have more substance than most bands i have seen in the last couple of years.
.......... Last year Martin appeared on "NEVER MIND THE BUZZCOCKS" on BBC2.......In 2006 Dollshouse played live at "IN THE CITY" Manchester as guests of the legendary KIM FOWLEY who requested they play for him after the band supported Kim at his London show at The Boston Arms.
...........Alexandra and Martin also co-presented "The London Fashion TV Show" on the E4 Channel in 2007 which went out on the worldwide TV network.
