About Me

RISING BROOK WRITERS

Formed in 2005 RISING BROOK WRITERS is a voluntary registered charitable trust for the Over 5Os/senior citizens and disabled writers. RBW aims are to share the joys of creative writing with others: to empower/encourage/build self-esteem/build self-confidence through self-expression by means of the medium of Creative Writing.

RISING BROOK WRITERS meets in Rising Brook Branch Library STAFFORD Staffs UK on Monday afternoons.

RBW also holds creative writing workshops - EVERYONE HAS A STORY TO TELL - for senior citizens/Over 50s organisations which started in the Spring of 2006 - grant aided by Age Concern.

The 2005 project was a themed anthology about Old Time Music Hall in the 1930s. TALES FROM THE GAIETY is jam packed with stories/articles/graphics which showcased the talents of this group of writers. Comedy is a new field for everyone - our writers usually produce: crime fiction - plays - film scripts - poetry - non-fiction articles.

Some writers are absolute beginners while others are published novelists/playwrights, award winning poets and retired journalists.

The Creative Writing Workshops Tour (15-20 workshops) for 2007 recorded a slice of local social history i.e. Home Front Memories. The 2007/08 workshops were led by a popular local author and university lecturer. A community workshop based anthology: STAFFORD REMEMBERS : ON THE HOME FRONT & NOW THE WAR IS OVER featuring pictures and memories of local residents will be published in Spring 2008 funded by Awards For All.

My Interests

RBW is interested in all forms of Creative Writing produced by the Over 50s and senior citizens - we love short stories - novels - poems - factual articles - memories about social history.

Older people carry a great wealth of the fabric of 'true' social history locked in their collective memory - if they don't share these memories and pass them on, much of the truth of our times will be lost.

On this webpage are not interested in nasty dirty material - there are plenty of places on the web for weird, cruel and nasty - this isn't one of them.

PLEASE NOTE: RBW only accept new friends who have Open Profiles and who are are genuinely interested in the art form of creative writing.

I'd like to meet:

Images From Tales From The Gaiety:Get Your Own! | View SlideshowWe would like to meet other Over 50s who have an interest in Creative Writing Workshops or in starting Creative Writing themselves.

IF YOU DON'T TELL YOUR OWN STORY, WHO WILL?

Music:

During 2005 we researched music of the 1890 - 1950s as performed on the Old Time Music Halls - this research was absolutely fascinating as a slice of social history.

2007's anthology is a light hearted frolic into supernatural and paranormal encounters. To be launched on 20th Sept 2007 at the Ancient High House in the Civil War Room.
