A bio about me, Jenni.
I am a Los Angeles native (yes, really ... one of the few).
I found my way to the piano sometime before the age of three and just as I believe that although we choose how we walk our paths, we don’t choose our fates ... I believe that somewhere it is already written.
Since my earliest memories music has been my voice.
What I know about myself is that I observe the human condition and capture feeling through song and melody.
I love people in all their greatness and with all their flaws.
Growing, learning, teaching, and just being ... just being here in the moment , this moment right now is what I love putting into a song... and songs are where I feel safest to express and feel feelings.
How amazing it is to sing in a room of people and open ourselves to the feelings a song can convey ... the meaning to each listener is what intrigues me the most... the interpritations , the reflections , the mystery...
To know within the audience wether it be large or small, that people see in the stories their own life experiences or feel they are there with me in an experience of my own is a moment to share like no other and it is in that moment that the experience becomes no longer just mine but "ours" .
For me this is the motivation to reach the soul through music.
During my years at UCLA I began working around the city teaching music in inner city schools, tutoring students with special needs, working in temples teaching Jewish music (that I am), and began writing, recording, touring, and selling records of the trunk of my car.
After I returned from my first trip backpacking throughout Europe where I performed in Spain, I realize that I wanted to make traveling around the world playing music and meeting great people a part of my life forever.
Following the footsteps of the indie artists I respect, I dove head first into the "do it yourself - grass roots approach" simply because I believe in creating opportunity even as opportunity finds you.
From simply following the heart, I have performed in Italy, Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Spain, the UK, India, Nepal, and through out the US.
The stories of how the occurrences in my life happened or how I met most of the people I have met are always long yet funny happen-stances to share, like typing producers in LA in google which let to writing music and working with some amazing people, putting together and touring benefit concerts to fund raise for early childhood music education which let to performing with wonderful women like Regina Spektor, Sara Bareilles, and Kaki King - and just recently the opportunity to support Loudon Wainwright III.
Or who would of guessed that climbing up a fire escape in Austin, TX during SXSW 05 and throwing my record into the local radio station window would of actually worked ?
Throughout all of these journeys I have met and worked with so many wonderful people - some who have grown to be my dear friends, as others have extended their selves to be a part of the musical growth and development in my career. Jimmy Paxson , Ben Peeler, Rich Mangicaro , Niko Bolas, George Massenburg, Erich Gobel, StaciSlater, Matt Messer, Brenden Okrent, Seth Saltzman, Marshall Altman, Steve Greenberg, Matt Messer, David Byrnes, Nathaniel Kunkel, Russ Kunkel, Viktor Krauss, Matt Rollings, Dean Parks, John Popper, B.F. and the other names to be added, and your name when I meet you....THANK YOU for your continued support and guidance
This process of growing and finding my voice, the continuous journey of living, loving and overcoming fears, inspires me to choose to find and embrace the ever so slight openings that occur amidst the chaos letting new journeys begin. the fantastic whirlwind of I do’s, I’m not sure's, I don’t have any idea, and I will anyway give me freedom of the mind, to be out of the mind. I find and each day reminds me that the truth is found through love and the heart ...
So I sing ... Thank you for listening
