My name is Brooks Schaper and I have been playing bass in Portland area bands since the mid nineties.
The above playlist includes some older tracks that I performed on.
I am always looking for different people to play with, let me know if you need a bassist.
A little background:
I started out taking classical lessons in elementary school, at 9 or 10 years old, studying cello. After 2 years, I picked up fretted bass, and started playing around with some friends in school. By freshman year in high school, I started playing with my friend Jordan Carlton, writing alternative rock and punk songs, as well as playing covers of bands like The Ramones and Nirvana. We never got to playing shows; Jordan passed away in 1996.
One year later, I started a punk band with Morgan Wichman, Chris Lae, and Chris Reynolds called the Dyvers. Playing orginals and performing at venues such as the Paris Theater and Stage 4, this project followed me through the rest of high school. Then, as it usually goes, we broke up.
A year or so after high school, I was approached by Jackson Coffey (drummer, percussionist) and Daniel Katter (guitar), who stopped by my parents house to ask if I would start playing with them in a new, progressive rock band, which Jackson wanted to call "Azazel." This later became Garuda's Mission, an instrumental epic. Jackson then recruited Erik Scholibo to be our keyboard player. This lineup lasted for 3 years, and then Dan quit music to join the Marine Corps. Months without a guitarist, and we finally hooked Chris Finster (who said it would be temporary) to play guitar, and as a bonus became our lead vocalist. After one album and countless shows, the band broke up in 2005.
During the latter portion of Garuda's, Jackson and I began rocking with studio neighbor Aaron Curley in his progressive blues band, the Delta Dawgs, and we are still trying to keep this project going. (shows hopefully coming soon!!)
In the meantime, I had started playing with local metal heroes Amongst Us. Chris invited me on to the project after Mike Wall's departure in 2003. My final show with Amongst Us was in september 2006.
Sometime during 2005 I managed to do some recording with Swindlefish, a band formed by Ben Barnes, formerly of Deadweight (San Francisco). My friend Jackson is also heard on these tracks. I have also tracked with local rapper Traffek.
Currently, I am playing with alternative band Polly High with Karen Page (lead vocals, guitar), Kevin Johnson, (drums; Camarro Hair, Velabonz, Kleveland), and Ben Brown (guitar; Blue Collar Scouts, Dehaviland).

September 4 2007: i went over to chad's house to play with amongst us, and have committed to playing with them once again. Shows coming soon.
I joined the industrial metal outfit Kandles at Nine. We should have a video coming soon, plus some new tracks with yours truly on the low end (if those guys ever get off of their asses and decide to have a rehearsal!!!)
