"Described by engineer/producer/guest musician Rob Stroup of 8 Ball Studios/The Imprints as, "PJ Harvey and Brian May checked into the Neutral Milk Hotel". Polly High's "Run Little Boy" explores texture, layers, and soundscape, employing elements of indie-pop folk-rock to make a sound that is as anti-folk as it is anti-indie sounding. That is, it's not raw, but is still organic, with a nice, polished finish, helping to bring the songs together into a collective, cohesive package that make "Run Little Boy" quite the journey for the listener.
Besides Stroup, Everclear's Brett Snyder, former Kleveland/Camaro Hair drummer Kevin Johnson, and Mission 5 front man Steve Wilkinson made guest appearances on the record.
Fronted by singer/songwriter Karen Page, Page got her start in the mid-90s Boise scene as singer and guitarist for Boise's Substructure, a band that came from the same pool as Built To Spill and Caustic Resin.
In 2000, Page moved to Portland to perform as a solo artist.
After touring the West Coast as a solo artist for several years, in 2006 Page formed Polly High. And the seeds were planted for "Run Little Boy"."
-Alex Steininger/In Music We TrustBio:
Polly High’s singer/songwriter Karen Page cannot tell a lie and it shows. Polly High's music is sincere. These folk-indie rockers display a multitude of talent with melancholy lyrical melodies being carried off by Beatle-esque guitar hooks and backed by a classically solid rhythm section. It’s back to the basics with those melodies that crawl inside your head and swim happily around for days.
Karen began writing music in the 90’s when she traded in her drum kit for a crappy guitar. The band Polly High was formed in 2006 after Karen spent a few years playing solo around the west coast. She is joined by bassist Brooks Schaper (Amongst Us), guitar virtuoso Benjamin Brown (Blue Collar Scouts/DeHaviland), and drummer Joe Evers (Penelope Purejoy).
Polly High recently released their long awaited cd entitled “RUN LITTLE BOYâ€, with contributions from nearly 20 NW celebrities! The 7 song ep is now available at cdbaby.com . The project is produced by Karen Page and Rob Stroup at 8 Ball Studio in Portland.
