Hey, I'm Steven Tom Smith, Steve for short ;), I'm a 22 year old singer/songwriter originally from a wee village near St. Andrews, Fife. I lived and played a few gigs in the ice cube that is the gray (silver apparently???) city of Aberdeen for near enough 5 years! But I've since graduated and have moved back to the Kingdom of Fife for a bit, so if you see me kicking about, say hi :D I'm applying for jobs, but am also recording a demo so looking to play as many gigs as possible! (er go "Torn in Two")
It's just me and my acoustic most of the time, although there' are a couple of songs like "Stay with me forever" where I've picked up an, accordion and attempted to make some sort of noise (Attempted being the word, :D ). It's full of holes, but that only adds to it's charm. I'm trying to get my head round the violin, although it's still sounding like I'm squeezing a cat to death ... slowly ...
I try to write songs that sound original and I believe that the lyrics and music are equally as important. I'm not afraid to experiment with new ideas. I endeavour to introduce depth and meaning to all of my songs. However, I also believe that people should be able to listen to a song and appreciate it at face value. The way you get to know and appreciate someone better over time, discovering hidden depth you never knew existed.

So far I've played a live slot on BBC Radio nan Gaidheal, played on aberdeenstudentradio.com and done a good few acoustic nights but am hungry for more! So if you are a promoter or a venue and want me to play, please give me an email at [email protected] !
I would also quite like to do a few house gigs too, so if you are up for it and promise not to kidnap me, let me know!
Or if you just wanna chat, find out when I'm next playing or are just interested in what colour/animal/number I'm thinking of at any point in time, please get in touch too, would be fantastic to hear from you, Steve ;)
Or** Give me an e-mail if you want to be added to the mailing list!** [email protected]
If you like what you hear, please tell your friends ... and your whole family (even the cousins you never see), your pets, people in the street ... and I will be very grateful (and happy!)

Dark Humour

A lot of my songs have dark undertones to them, and I attribute that to my twisted love of dark comedy. For those of you who have seen Julia Davis' "Nighty Night" , you'll know what and I'm talking about, and will either love me or hate me for it!

From the adulterous nature of Karaoke Whore and her command over married men to the sinister verses of "Twisted", the dark influence is certainly evident.

Here are some clips, these are for those old enough and who don't take things too seriously

Whisky

A guitar on my lap, a pen in one hand and a whisky in another = song writing at it's best.

Things that make me laugh

Harry Hill
Ch-Chucklevision - I love it! Barry is my friend on Myspace! (I wish it was the real Barry)
The Mighty Boosh
Spaced
Nighty Night
Monkey Dust
The League of Gentlemen
Peep Show
Green Wing
Extras
People falling over - followed by immediate guilt!
When ever I go into a daydream - Honestly, the things that come into my head!

Machines I want invented!

I really want a machine that can record my dreams, then when I wake up I can see all the crazy things I've been thinking(?) about!

Favorite ...

Film 28 Days later - A Rage virus infects Britain and brings it to its knees!

Books
1984 - George Orwell - Big Brother is watching you in a dystopian Britain
A Clockwork Orange - Anthony Burgess
We - Yevgeny Zamyatin
Brave New World - Aldous Huxley
I love these books, the way they describe an alternate but plausible future, depicting utopia/dystopia! If anyone has any more suggestions for further reading, please let me know!

I'm not all doom and gloom, books by Irvin Welsh, Christopher Brookmyre, Ian Banks, Ian Rankin and Zadie Smith :D

Favorite Quotes

Juan Ramon Jimenez - If they give you ruled paper, write the other way

Embarrassing Secret
I would love to play the part of Seymour in "The little shop of horrors" ... I know, I know ... you can laugh your tits off now ...
Sounds Like: The illicit lovechild of Roddy Woomble and Sarah Harmer, with a bit of Counting Crows and Travis thrown in for good measure. Raised on a healthy and nutritious diet of Turin Breaks and David Gray with regular visits from generous Auntie Mew and Uncle Muse. ..
