About Me

PROG-RESISTE MAGAZINE has dubbed Pushing Red Buttons the "New Popes of Intelligent Pop Music" and ROCK UNITED has hailed them as "The Underground Kings of Weird Rock". Formed in New York City during the spring of 2001, PUSHING RED BUTTONS are musicians STEVE HERRIG (Keyboard/Vocals), RICH GAGLIA (Guitars/Lead Vocals), RICH CHAPPLE (Bass/Vocals) and JOHN DiGIULIO (Drums). Their first CD "Down", released on August 15, 2002, was praised for it's "eclectic style" ("Their odd-ball, toe-tapping pop tunes are appealing and imaginative...though it may sound strange on paper, this is actually a charming and inspired album" - THE BIG TAKEOVER). On May 15, 2003 their second (self-titled) CD "Pushing Red Buttons" was released ("Pushing Red Buttons reminds me of Klaatu...that should be taken as a compliment, because many people thought that Klaatu were actually the Beatles in disguise" - SPLENDID E-ZINE / "When a band has the ability to remind me of XTC, the Partridge Family, and the Beatles, all within the confines of one release, they've earned both my curiosity and my respect" - LEFT OFF THE DIAL). Several outside musicians added their talents to those sessions. TODD RUNDGREN/UTOPIA Bassist-Vocalist KASIM SULTON sang lead and played bass on two songs, Vocalist JEFF LYONS sang lead on four songs and Vocalist (from NYC band White Clam) SAM HOPKINS added background vocals on a couple of songs. Sessions began for "Foreign Film or Tango Dance ?" in October 2003. Saxophone player DAN CIPRIANO (WILSON PICKETT, RONNIE SPECTOR...etc..) added chops on three songs and String Player Extraordinaire CHRISTIAN HOWES (THE LES PAUL TRIO) laid down various string tracks on three songs as well. "Foreign Film of Tango Dance ?" was released May 25, 2004 ("PRB seem to be using entertainment to politicize rather than the other way around. The further you get into this one, the more you notice that they're seditious little buggers" - UNPEELED U.K.). Work has begun on their fourth CD...set to be released in fall of 2008 under the (working) title "The Butterfly Net". Some new members will be onboard -- TONY "El Tigre" JOHNSON joins up as Lead Guitarist , DAVE CLARK lends a hand with vocals plus JR HARTLEY (from Steve's previous band...Norman Fell) returns as Bassist. Maybe the most interesting thing about our band is....WE REALLY DON'T EXIST.
