MY TOWN first originated in 1991 and ran on several CABLE ACCESS TV Stations in the Minneapolis/St.Paul area between November of '91 thru December 1992. The show's hosts (MIKE J and SCOTTY G) wild antics and segments such as "DIS WEEK" and "STREET BEAT"...pre-date the silly Wayne & Garth hijinks of "Wayne's World"...and as such...make it deserving of some sort of DOCUMENT as to the shows "pushing the boundries and limits" of Cable Television at the time. This page IS that document. The FOURTEEN one hour monthly episodes were made up of 30 to 40 short segments such as..the one minute black n' white short films "BEAUTY OF THE MONTH". FREE SPEECH ruled as Mike J and Scotty G were always willing to speak their minds...NO MATTER WHAT ! One only needs to see an old clip from their monthly "DIS WEEK" installment to understand why it was a BAD IDEA to get on Mike or Scotty's BAD SIDE. ANYBODY and EVERYBODY was FAIR GAME. And...on My Town...the DOCTOR always made a monthly House Call with Dr.Nancy Heitzeg giving the audience her OPINION and INSIGHT on a current..or even a non current..event. No Matter. It was all about SMOKING anyway. The MUSIC of MY TOWN was the REAL reason why the show first got started and 36 bands from the Minneapolis area performed on the fourteen shows. Each monthly episode also contained INTERVIEWS with PERSONALITES and ORGANIZATIONS from around the TWIN CITES area. After the first few episodes aired...the show started to get some GOOD PRESS and MY TOWN started to gain some ATTENTION within the community. And "The community" always got it's two cents in during the "STREET BEAT" segment...where Mike & Scotty would go out on the street and ask questions and illicit opinions from the public at large. Of course...the show had it's detractors as well...and the show was SUSPENDED or KICKED OUT of several of the access centers during the months of Production. Eventually the show ran it's final episode in December 1992..and signed off with their CLASSIC "DIS WEEK" catch phrase..."When you're talkin' so much you ain't got no back / cause you're always out there talking that wick-wick whack / You better look out 'cause your ass might get beat down / 'cause you might end up on DIS WEEK and this MY TOWN so...FUCK OFF !!".
